Hey! This is the final chapter! The songs in this chapter is "My Happy Ending" by Avril Lavigne and "Ordinary Day" by Vanessa Carlton. Hope you enjoy!
"Kimmy, honey, are you getting ready for the dance?" Kim's mother asked, waiting in the hall. "Do you need any help?"
"No, I'm fine, I was just thinking." Kim heard her mother go downstairs. Kim opened her closet, taking out her outfit she had bought couple weeks ago. She fingered the pale red mesh upon the red silk. The top of the dress was made like a corset, with lace shoulder straps. From the waist down, the red silk and mesh flowed down to her ankles. The dress was trimmed with black lace, accentuating her curves. She slipped into the dress, and pulled out her black heels. Before leaving the house into her mother's BMW, she grabbed her ticket and her mask. After all, the ticket did say "TICKET FOR HANSON MIDDLE VALENTINE'S MASQUERADE BALL."
Kim giggled as she took Josh's hand. "Josh, you're so sweet. Here, let me help you with your mask." Kim took Josh's mask, and tied it on, Josh secretly blushing. The two handed in their tickets, and walked into the transformed gym.
"Oh my gosh! Hey Kim!" Dana said, walking over to her, hand in hand with Josh.
"I see you two know each other. Dana, this is Kim, my best friend. Kim, this is Dana, my girlfriend. Dad moved down here when her father gave him a job here," Josh said, hugging Dana around the waist the whole time.
"You must be so glad that Josh is your friend," Dana said, smiling. "He's sweet, isn't he?"
"Yeah, sweet and sour," Kim said, stalking off.
She looked at the picture, which was finally developed. She was disgusted at how much she was smiling. It was as if when the picture was finally developed, she could actually see who Josh was. He was nothing but a lowlife, scampering around to get a girl to get to the top. He was just like Steven, except Steven acted like he cared. Kim walked out to the school courtyard, and used the side ladder to climb onto the roof.
Jack and Sally looked over their shoulders as they slow danced. "Sorry Mayra, I thought she was with Josh," Jack said.
"Actually," Sally corrected, "there's a rumor going around that he used Kim as a decoy and took someone else instead."
"Yeah, he took Dana. That's why I'm looking for Kim. Accoring to Josh, she just got up and left when he told her," Mayra said.
Jack and Sally looked at each other. They knew Kim made bold moves, but she had never really run away before. "So she's missing?"
"Duh! I'm going to ask the other guys to help find her." Mayra ran off to find the other, while Jack and Sally began looking around for Kim.
Mayra looked around the whole gym, and found the four guys leaning on the wall, doing nothing. Quickly, she ran over to them. "Guys! It's Kim!"
"So? Why should we care about her?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, I mean, she totally ditched us," Andrew chimed in.
"Who cares about that right now?" Mayra yelled. "She's missing! I can't find her anywhere!"
Jon was the first one to get up. "What are you talking about? Isn't she with her stupid boyfriend?"
"He used her. She was only a decoy so that his real girlfriend wouldn't get all the attention."
The boys felt guilty. They felt that it was their fault that she was hurt. If they hadn't let her get away so easily, then she'd be right next to them.
"I'm gonna go look for her," Steven said, taking off his jacket. He walked out of the gym, leaving Mayra and the three other guys.
"Guys, don't tell me you don't care about Kim," Mayra pleaded.
Sighing, Mike, Andrew, and Jon decided to help find Kim. "Mike, you get the music hall. Jon, you get the electives hall, and Andrew, you get the main hall."
You were everything, everything that
I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be,
but we lost it
And all of the memories, so close to
me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
The words in the song slowly tore her apart from the inside. She ran to the girls bathroom, splashing water from the running faucet on her face. How can I be so stupid? Why would I think he moved down here to be with me? Why would I think he wouldn't go on and just act like I never existed? I'm such a hopeless romantic.
"Kim? You in here?"
Kim quickly ran into one of the empty stalls, hiding from Mayra's voice.
"Mayra? Is Kim in there?" Sally's voice echoed.
"No, no one's here," Mayra replied. "Let's try the cafeteria. She might be eating dinner in there."
As soon as Kim heard the heels click their way out of the bathroom, she came out of the stall. I have gotta get outta here. Or at least somewhere they won't find me....
She ran into the music hall, hiding in the chorus room. There, she sat in the corner, away from the window into the hall. She began singing, trying to console herself, but making herself feel worse.
Just a day, just an ordinary day
Just trying to get by
Just a boy, just an ordinary boy,
but
He was looking to the sky
And as he asked if I would come
along I started to realise
That every day he finds just what
he's looking for
And like a shooting star he shines
and he said
Take my hand, live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right
in the palm of your hand
Mike walked into the hall, checking if
the doors were locked. He had already checked all the rooms on the
way to the hall, and found nothing. He went into the orchestra and
band rooms, which were left wide open. He came out of the band room,
disappointed. He was about to leave the hall to go back to the gym
when he heard something down the hall. He heard a murmur, and as he
got closer to the sound, he heard singing from the chorus room.
Quietly, he walked up to the door, and put his ear against the
window, and heard a soft voice singing.
Just a dream, just an ordinary
dream.
As I wake in bed
And the boy, that boy, that ordinary
boy.
Or was it all in my head?
Did he ask if I would come along
It all seemed so real.
But as i looked to the door,
I saw that boy standing there with a
deal.
And he said he my take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see your dreams lie right
in the palm of your hand
Right in the palm of your hand,
Right in the palm of your hand.
He moved his head away from the window, and moved the dark hallway over to the door to the chorus room. Slowly, he opened the door, finding Kim huddled up against the wall. He walked over to her, and sat down next to her and took her into his arms. "I'm so sorry about what happened to you."
"I'm a hopeless romantic," Kim whimpered.
"You're not hopeless, Kimmy," Mike whispered to Kim. "You are my hope. You are what makes all of us smile everyday."
Kim leaned into Mike, sniffling. "Thank you."
"Can I ask something?" Mike asked.
Kim nodded, and Mike went on to ask his question. "When you were singing earlier, there must be a reason you chose that song."
"Because I have a boy that seems to be a dream, but is helping me see I'm living in it," Kim smiled.
"Can I ask who that boy is?"
At that moment, Mike didn't need an answer, because Kim had just given him a quick peck on the forhead. "I think you know who it is, Mike," she smiled, getting up.
Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just tryin to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.
And as he ask if i would come along
I started to realize-
That everyday you find
Just what he's looking for,
Like a shooting star he shines.
He said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right
in the palm of your hand?
As the song went on, Kim rested her head on Mike's shoulder. This is what she had wanted. Someone to feel about her the same way she felt about him. Someone to lean on. Someone to show her dreams were in the palm of her hand.
Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just tryin to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.
At the end of the song, Mike tilted her head up with his hand, and kissed her, just the same way he had the day before. Only this time, Kim wanted the kiss.
