Good Hope

He said: My darling, this you must learn -

We call it Good Hope, for that’s all we have;

Good hope, and bad hope, and the hope in-between.

So make haste and make sail,

We’ll round the cape before sundown,

And outrun the wrath

That the heavens augur;

But should a storm overturn us,

And Neptune divide us,

My heart is an anchor and your memory shale -

I’ll make myself sails from the cloth off my back

And fight back the storms with a whisper of breath,

And that whisper your name;

And one my day my bones

Will sail through ages,

To you, my darling,

’Round the Cape of Good Hope.
