Ch.26- My Birthday Wish.
“Sae” Someone whispered in my ear.
I turned over and groaned.
“Sae…Wake up” they whispered again.
I shoved a pillow over my ears and lay flat on my stomach. Then I went cold. I made a pitiful attempt to steal the covers back. I heard a muffled laugh as I scrunched up into a little ball and fell back asleep.
“Alright sleep head you want to play dirty.” I heard the smirk in the voice that tortured me so.
I was suddenly off my bed and being carried into the bathroom. My eyes flew open instantly and I clawed my way out of my brother’s grasp and ran back into my bedroom.
I got onto the bed and pointed at him.
“You were going to put me into the shower you freak.” I spat.
“Only a little one.” He smirked back.
“Come on. Let’s get out of here before our parents wake up and realize you’re gone.” He smiled.
“What are you planning?” I asked suspicious.
“It’s your birthday. I want to take you out since it’s your sweet sixteen. But we gotta hurry or mom will refuse because she wants you all to herself.” He told me walking to the door.
“So hurry up” he said once more before exiting.
‘It is my birthday’ I thought ‘I can’t believe I almost forgot.’
I looked over at the clock. 8:45. I collapsed back onto my bed a groaned.
10 minutes later I was downstairs and eagerly waiting to be taken where ever Jase had planned.
“Come on” he whispered gesturing toward the door.
I followed him out the door and to his car. I waited as he slowly put on his seat belt and started the car. He then settled back and fidgeted with the radio. I just stared in annoyance.
“Ok already! Get on with it! Geez even grandma Riz can go faster than you are right now and she’s friggen 65!” I yelled.
“Alright calm down.” He said as he finally pulled out of the drive way and headed to our destination.
“Where are we going?” I asked a little while later.
“It’s a surprise now shh!” he warned.
I pouted and continued to stare out the window.
I found myself asleep and someone was shaking me.
“We’re here.” My brother whispered. I looked up and out the window to see a large lake.
“Uh…where’s here?” I asked when I saw the trees and large hills.
“Moonshine lake. It’ about 45 minutes out of town.” He smiled.
“Ok. Why are we here?” I asked confused.
With that he replied by getting out of the car and walking up to a lonely looking cabin. I frowned and reluctantly followed. Once we reached the door I looked into the window and saw it was a shop. Jase opened the door and didn’t even wait for me as he walked in. Inside were all these fishing supplies and road maps with various other items.
“Hey Jim!” I heard as I turned around to see my brother shaking hands with a shaggy blonde haired guy.
He looked to be around my brother’s age and had a nice tan. He looked like a surfer dude.
“You ready?” Jim asked him smiling his set of pearly whites.
“Question is. Is she ready?” Jase asked turning his attention to me.
All this time I was standing there dumbfounded and confused on what the hell they were talking about. Jim turned his blue eyes onto me still smiling.
“I have no clue what you two are talking about.” I told them bluntly.
“Well. This should give you a hint.” Jim said as he pulled out a board from behind the counter. It was black with light blue streaks running everywhere. On the bottom It spelled out Bite Me in jagged blue letters.
I walked up to it in awe. I gently traced the blue streaks and looked it over.
“It’s yours. Your bro bought it for you.” Jim said handing it to me.
“What’s it for?” I asked still in awe.
I then heard the both of them laugh.
“Wakeboarding” my brother said smiling.
“Wake what?”
(For all of you who don’t know what Wakeboarding is… It’s kind of hard to explain but I will give it a go. It’s kind of like jet skiing with a board lol. You do tricks on the waves and such. Yeah.)
“I don’t know Jase. You know I’m uncomfortable with bathing suits.” I whined from inside the changing room.
“Oh come on Sae. It’s not like I put you in a skimpy looking bikini” I heard his frustrated voice from outside.
I sighed and very slowly opened up the door. He put me in tight bathing suit shorts and a top that clung for dear life onto me. It was all black with a logo on the bottom of the shorts in white. Speedo I think. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and had my sunglasses on top of my head.
“You ready? Whoa dude. You look hot in that” Jim said appearing out of no where.
I blushed immediately and looked at my brother.
“Any tighter and I think I’ll suffocate.” I spat.
“Come on spoil sport lighten up. It’s not going to be that bad.” He said taking me by the shoulders and leading me out.
“Easy for you to say.” I mumbled under my breath.
As soon as the door opened I was greeted by fresh air and warm sunshine. My board was between my waist and my arm. I carried it to the boat dock and pulled on my sunglasses.
“Alright now. Easy does it and step carefully onto the boat.” Jim instructed as he held my hand and waited for me to step on.
“I’ve been on a boat before.” I said taking my hand away and getting on.
I heard a quiet laugh emitted from my brother as he laughed at his friends sorry attempts.
They gave me a life jacket and told me to strap up. As my brother helped me strap up, Jim took the boat to mid water.
“Alright. Since you are a beginner we’ll have to start with standing up on the water.” Jim smirked.
As he brushed passed me I made a face at him. I walked over to the edge of the boat and sat down. I strapped my feet into the board and with the help of my brother and Jim I stood up on the water. My feet just barely went into it. My balance was a little bit weird as I leaned both ways for support. Finally, when I thought I had it I told them to let go. As soon as they did I fell backwards onto my back.
I heard laughter from above the water and I came up gasping for air.
“Shut up.” I pouted and pulled myself back onto the boat.
“Okay try this. Hold onto the rope and lay on your back on the water. Bend your knees while the board faces the boat. “He said showing me the stance. I got in and followed his instructions.
He then went to the driver’s seat and turned it back on.
“What are you doing?” I yelled panicked.
“I’m going to go slowly at first. Try to stay up!” He yelled back.
The boat started to move slowly and soon I was too. I bent my knees and pulled myself up trying to balance. I smiled as I accomplished that. I laughed when I saw my brother give me the thumbs up. It was fun going at this speed. Then the waves came and I went up and down. I looked up quickly and saw my brother motion to keep my knees bent. So I did.
“How are you doing?!” Jase yelled out to me.
“Great!” I yelled back with enthusiasm.
It had been almost an hour and I was starting to get the hang of it. I even learned a trick. Where I rotated my body to where my left foot was in front and my right foot in the back. Don’t ask what it was called because I didn’t listen to that part. I was just excited to do it.
Around 11 we decided to call it quits. I was soaked by then and had a couple of bruises on my butt from falling but I was pumped. I was all hyped up and ready to go somewhere and do something. After I dried off and freshened up Jase took me out to lunch.
We sat inside the restaurant and waited for our food to arrive.
“So how did you like it?” he asked taking a sip of his coke.
“It was so friggen awesome it hurt! Literally.” I smiled feeling great.
He laughed at my goofy smile.
“Thank you so much. I really needed that.” I said a little more calm this time.
“It’s the best birthday gift so far” I smiled.
“It’s the only gift you’ve gotten so far.” He laughed.
“Yeah I know. That’s why it’s the best.” I smiled childishly and saw our food coming.
After our food was served our conversation continued.
“I know you needed it. I thought it would be a great thing for you to learn. You even have battle scars.” He pointed out after he swallowed a fry.
I smiled and continued to chew some of my hamburger.
“I’m glad you’re my brother. I don’t know what I would do without you.” I told him.
“And I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have anyone to bother and play pranks on.” He smirked.
I laughed and punched him playfully.
After lunch he took me to the mall and we raided various stores. He bought me two shirts and a CD. I was very content with the choices.
We drove home around 3 after getting some ice cream.
Once we pulled up to the house. I was too happy to notice an un normal amount of cars parked in not so secret places. I walked happily up the stairs and opened the door to darkness.
“Why is it so friggen dark in here!” I yelled as I blindly searched for a light. As soon as I found one and switched it on I was greeted by something to remember.
“SURPRISE!” people from every where yelled. I jumped back into my brother who also yelled the greeting.
I was still in a shock that it took me a couple seconds to register what just happened.
“Oh my God!” I yelled as I looked around.
What caught my attention the most was a short brunette and a funky haired girl standing side by side with large smiles.
“This has to be a dream.” I said walking up to them.
Liz and Missy exchanged laughs as they both hugged me.
“We decided it would be great if we put aside our differences for one night.” Liz told me after pulling away.
“Yeah. You defiantly deserve this Sae.” Missy continued.
“You guys planned all of this!” I exclaimed gesturing to everything to everyone.
They both nodded.
“I called up family and friends.” Liz said gesturing to everyone.
“And I called caterers and got the various balloons and banners and so on.” Missy told me gazing up at the ceiling where tons of balloons floated.
“Thank you guys so much.” I said hugging both of them again.
They laughed and pulled me through the crowd to the food.
Everyone was there. From Grandpa Paul to my mom’s best friend Haley who was a good friend of the family. Little children laughed and ran around the house. I went around talking to everyone and laughing with my friends.
“All right everyone now listen up!” I turned to see Jase on top of a chair over looking the crowd.
“It’s time to cut the birthday cake!” he smiled as shouts were heard.
I was being pulled by Amber, who found me, toward the cake. It was a nice big sized cake that said happy birthday Savannah in dark red letters with some designs and such on it. The candles were then light and the lights went off.
“Make a wish.” My mom said from beside me. I smiled and looked around searching for someone. About to give up, I catch sight of two familiar blue eyes. His eyes locked mine and we stared with emotionless expressions. I then turned back to the cake.
“I only have one.” I whispered. I took a huge breath and forced it back out onto the candles. It took a couple of tries to get them all out. Then the lights came on. Everybody cheered and laughed as I smiled at my mom.
I then looked back to the place where I saw those deep blue eyes. They were gone. I frowned and turned back to Amber leading me towards the gifts.
“What the heck is this?!” I laughed picking up some sort of lingerie.
The gift was from Liz who snatched it out of my hands and stuffed it back into the bag.
“You weren’t supposed to open that yet.” She told me smiling.
I laughed and started to open the second one, when I realized who it was from. Printed on a small tag was Elijah.
My hand started to shake as I un wrapped it slowly. No one, though, seemed to notice. Inside the paper was a blue velvet box. The velvet was soft to the touch as I opened the top.
I heard gasps coming from around me as I brought out a necklace. It was on a silver chain and had a small blue heart attached to it. The heart was made of Sapphires, my favorite gems.
I stood up abruptly and looked around clutching the necklace. I searched frantically for any sign. Then I saw one. I saw him making his way to the door.
‘No,’ I thought ‘you can’t leave now’
I grabbed my brother’s guitar that had been left in the living room and made my way to the table.
“I have an announcement.” I yelled through out the house. He turned around to look at me. I saw his eyes were full of hurt.
“I wrote a song. I want you to hear it.” I said looking down at the strings.
I strummed it a few times and looked up. I met his eyes and started to play.
“I can only take so much
So much pain and regret
That I didn’t sooner realize
That it was you I loved
You had my eyes
And now you’re gone
And I’m forever lost
In you-
How is it I can only think of you?
How is it you make me so confused?
And there is no other feeling
Than this embedded truce
I wish you could feel this sweet emotion
I get when I look at you
And wish you looked at me
The same way too
But what I didn’t realize
Was that you saw me
Through the tears I’ve cried
You’ve called to me
But I couldn’t hear your cries.
Cuz I was surrounded by all the lies
And grounded by what I tried to hide…
How is it I can only think of you?
How is it you make me so confused?
And there is no other feeling
Than this embedded truce
I wish you could feel this sweet emotion
I get when I look at you
And wish you looked at me
The same way too
Even when I do you wrong
You come on back
So ever strong
Determined to prove
That I belong with you
And no matter how hard I try
I know it’s you, and I cannot lie.
Cuz in the honest end
It’s me and you.
That make up one
In the honest end-
I love you.”
I whispered the last part. My eyes started to sting and water. My throat tightened and I was glad I could finish the song. The crowd was silent and I kept his gaze. Until he started to turn around.
That was then I shot up out of my chair and pushed my way through the crowd. I saw his black jacket just in time and grabbed his arm. I spun him around a kissed him directly on the lips. It took him a couple minutes to respond. He enclosed me in his arms and leaned into it making it sweeter than before. I smiled still up against him and pulled away looking into his eyes.
“Why?” he asked brushing his finger across my cheek.
“Because I love you. And I am not going to give up.” I smiled as he pushed his lips against mine again.
I heard awes and sighs, and my dad threatening if it was another boy he’d be out of the house by now. I laughed deepened the kiss. Never wanting to let go.
Short Epilogue.
I walked out onto my porch escaping the rowdy crowd inside. I sat down on the top step and crossed my arms over my stomach gazing into the sky.
Through all of this I’ve hit my highs and my lows. Just a normal teenage life with my dramas and love. Oh how sweet love is. My stupid mistakes and happily ever after. Realizing the truth as it produced itself in many different ways. I’ve come to realize only one thing. I’m just a girl. A girl with big dreams and stupid little quarks. A girl who makes mistakes and gets jealous. A girl who loves to laugh and have fun.
I heard the door open and soon felt two strong arms come around me. I turned to stare into deep blue eyes who were staring back at me. I smiled and kissed him lightly on the lips before turning back to the sky.
A girl who’s in love and love’s to be loved. You just have to have a little hope that everything will be fine. I had hope and I still do, and everything turned out perfectly. Hope is all you can ever do in this twisted little world, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
