Alice
by Grace Liou

Alice, you are so lovely
with your long fine hair
and delicate porcelain features
do you still dream...
do you still play...
in the wonderland that resides
in the mirror...
down the rabbit hole...
in your mind?
When you cried
and spun the strange tales
of a mysterious land
did they call you insane?
Wear a shield of red hearts
around you, dear
protect yourself with
a small smile and sweet mouth
Let them sip in the sugary froth
of your disposition
and kiss your peach colored skin
Your soul is but a wailing child
in your heart
and your mind is wrapped up
in a sheath of vague thoughts
Alice, you are so lovely...
though you try to convince
them the white rabbit in the vest
holding a watch exists
along with the red queen of hearts
you will find yourself an old
spinster if you keep
insisting the truth
Alice, when you cried...
