I've tried writing a story before, but I never finished...usually because I decided that I hated my idea...anyways...I think I'm actually going to stick with this one! Pleeeeeeeeease review and I'll review yours!

Chapter 1

The doorbell continued to ring insistently, forcing Gwen to open her eyes. She groaned as she slowly sat up in her bed. She had tried ignoring the annoying rings, but whoever was at the door wasn’t going to leave until she answered it.

It’s probably late afternoon, so I should get up anyways, Gwen thought, trying to convince her arms to shake the warm, comfortable blanket off of her body. Moving very slowly, she swept the blanket aside, slid off of the bed, and looked at the clock hanging on the wall opposite the bed. As she had thought, it was late – 12:45 p.m. That explained why no one else had answered the door; both of her parents were already at work and Gwen didn’t have siblings.

The morning grogginess wore off after a few moments and she quickly took off her pajamas and put on a shirt and jeans before leaving her room to go to the front door, where she looked through the peephole to see her best friend, Welwyn, standing on the doorstep. Welwyn was holding what looked like a large, old book and looked excited.

She rushed inside as Gwen unlocked and opened the door.

“What are you doing here, Wyn? Wait…how’d you get here?” Gwen asked as she shut the door behind Welwyn.

Welwyn suddenly took on a very serious look and said quietly, “The red ones.”

Gwen rolled her eyes. “Seriously, Wyn.”

Welwyn smiled happily. “I asked my mom to drop me off at the library – you know, the one that’s really close to here – and she said to call her when I was ready for her to pick me up, but then I found this,” she waved the book in Gwen’s face, “and walked here to show it to you, so here I am!” She said all of this very quickly, without pausing for breath.

“And…what’s that?” Gwen asked, gesturing to the book.

This is why we won’t be bored any more!”

It was summer vacation and the girls had been talking online the night before, complaining about how boring things were becoming even though summer had barely started. Not that they wanted to go back to school, especially since they dreaded starting 9th grade, therefore high school, after summer was over.

“That would take a lot,” Gwen said doubtfully.

She took the book out of Welwyn’s hand and opened it. She gasped at what she saw and slowly flipped through the first few pages, her bluish-green eyes growing wider and wider.

“No way,” she said finally.
