Prologue

People still walk up to me, recognizing my face from the news reports they’ve seen so long ago, and ask me about what happened three years ago. It's madness. I’ve become accustoimed to it, though, and that’s the sign that your life is crazy: when the things that should be uncomfortable are normal now. It's not really their business what happened, anyway. I promised myself that if anyone was rude enough to confront me and ask me to relive some of my worst memories, I would never tell them a word. Just walk away. Walk away.

Shortly after it happened, she had an interview with so many news stations, magazines, and newspapers that I wondered who wouldn't hear about it. As if the paparazzi didn't get all of the facts... well actually, they didn't report anything true. About a year ago he finally had a small interview with Fox News. In both scenarios, we all promised each other we wouldn't give any information that would be difficult or too insulting to memory to speak of to total strangers. Because the world doesn't need to know about it. Because it was never supposed to happen.

So why exactly am I even writing this story, after all of the promises? To stop the questions, the curiosity the public seems to have whenever I walk to the store. No, in reality it's more of a personal project.

He'll be furious once he finds out I've already found a publisher and everything. I'm sure it'll be too late, though. It will already have been written. Actually, he most likely won't be too mad. He may even help me, but that's asking too much, isn't it?

So, now that this is in front of you, maybe it will all stop. Maybe it'll answer your questions. Maybe, in writing this, some of my questions will be answered, too.
Maybe I'll be able to live with myself...
