Moonlight Agony

Alone am I in a sea of dead air

Lost am I in a timeless struggle called life

Lying with my eyes towards the heavens

Diamonds stitched into somber black velvet

I stare into the eyes of the universe

My shimmering tears glide up into the stars

Moonlight ivory caresses my cheek

Setting quiet tributaries of anguish ablaze

Eyelashes wisp away shadow-clouds of dissolution

The ashes of my sorrows become one with the night

Black-smoke pyres mark the destruction of hope

Softly pierced by the ever changing moon

My eyes gently flicker beneath the velvet gloom

Each eyelid sliding as fatigue, like tiny pebbles, drop upon their aching skin

As my weary head rests among the cool whisper-sweet lattice of emerald blades

I slip further

Still further

Away…

Until the moon is just a baby’s breathe upon my cheek

Loneliness is set in stone upon my eyes

Behind my eyes

Inside my mind

Deep within my soul…
