A/N: This was written using inspiration from Julie Malone's Enlighten.
imprisonment
- - - - -
The moon above the chain link fence
Seemed to smile, that day
Shining promise.
It winked at me.
I thought, maybe my future’s there
Out there
In the blue night.
Some day I’ll be free.
So I gripped the bars of that
Chain link fence.
My subconscious could fly and walk through walls.
One more star in the sky.
My dreams swirled in the milky way.
But the metal was cold against my skin,
An iron reminder of imprisonment
And midnight strands of hair blew across my eyes
In the hollow, helpless wind
And footsteps came behind me
Like a war drum.
A steel hand grasped my arm
And yanked
As my dreams came crashing down around me
Shattering into a million pieces on the concrete floor
In the moonlight
And the copper odor of fear
Demanded submission.
The yawning doors breathed blackness
Overwhelming me.
But just before the darkness took me
I looked back.
Just once.
The moon above the chain link fence
Watched me die inside
And wept silver tears
As the iron doors slammed shut
And I lost myself.
