So Long Ago

The songs of many birds filled the fresh spring morning. Butterflies danced lightly in the breeze like little faeries. A doe nibbled tentatively on a few tender pieces of grass. Sunshine came pouring in through the treetops, making beautiful patterns of light on the grass. A young girl sat quietly on a fallen tree, dangling her feet into a clear blue pond.

The girl watched all of the animals that came and went with interest. She admired the all of the flowers, and sang with all the birds. The world seemed to finally be at peace with itself. Then her mother could be heard calling her back to their little cottage. The girl rose and ran joyfully back to her house, blissfully unaware that she would not return for a very long time.


An older woman sat under a single tree that stood on the corner of a city street. It was the only tree visible for miles. Cars and buses flew by at top speed, and loud music could be heard blaring from the upper window of an apartment complex. The woman seemed oblivious to it all. She relaxed there, envisioning the same exact spot as it had been so many years ago. It had changed so much….

Obituaries

Marie Davis died yesterday from an unknown cause. The 85-year-old woman appeared to have fallen asleep underneath a tree, but when a police officer went to wake her, he found her dead. Marie, who grew up here, had no family who survived her.
