I look into the broken mirror,

Between the cracks there lies a key,

Reflected is a crooked smile,

Holding in a silent hopeful plea.

The key leads to an older door,

Opened many years ago,

Locked inside before today,

Never letting new colors flow.

Unlocked with another key,

Now the door is open wide,

Stepping out into new lights,

Letting out what’s locked inside.

Ready to step out again,

A heavy mask falls to the floor,

Elaborate with decorations,

Somehow different than before.

The rays of light are pleasant,

A gift of bravery for eyes,

Held in golden waves of sun,

And the blueness of the cloudless skies.

One day when I look back,

And the mirror’s not as bright,

I’ll see the keys once used,

And remember all old lights.

But for now I have a dream,

To find my newest key,

That will lead to new love,

And will give me greater glee.
