Silver Frame

This framed emotion,

Upon the hearth,

Sits silent, cold…watching.

What have I done,

To let it go,

And place upon it a silver frame?

I can see the images of long ago,

Fleeting though they may be.

A happiness felt only by a child…

I feel no fear, just frivolous bliss.

What emotion is this, again?

This joy.

This simple pleasure,

I feel when my eyes

Cast upon the glass,

That holds this sentiment…

Long forgotten, covered in dust.

-

I hear the laughter of a child’s game,

But I know it not to be mine.

I feel the warmth of a summer’s glee,

But I know it not to be true.

It’s unspoken words,

Scream at me,

Yet, I hear not but a whisper.

So I sit by the fire,

My gaze intent upon the glimmering silver.

And I wonder once more,

In my heart, not my mind…

What have I done,

To let it go,

And place upon it a silver frame?
