Mystery

It was a dark and stormy night…

A rumble, a flash, lightning has crashed.
He pulls his coat tight.
Collar flipped up, hat dipped down, conceals just right,
Showing only his eyes, nose and lips.
Yet, towards him she skips,
Collecting raindrops on her skin unabashed.

She offers her hand, a smile, and says, “Hi, I’m me.”
He stays silent and shady.
She leans in to giggle, “I know you, Mister Shadow.
I can see right through your gated hollow.”
He stays silent and shady.
She winks and takes her leave.

He smirks, proud of himself,
Sure of his mysterious self,
A character easily filed on a shelf.
But she, for all that she spoke…
Questions and wonders provoked.

Perky as… sin?
Inviting grin?
She was a mystery to him.
