By: Enelya Wood

Liqueur, music, young children, too much wit, and an open snuff box. Now throw in a few homosexuals and you’ve got yourself Lord and Lady Hughs Annual Christmas Party.

Character outline-

Lord James Hughs- head of the Hughs family. He is rather heavy set and consumes far to much liqueur then a man of is age should. He has now become fond of squandering all of his inheritance away on liqueur, women and lavish parties.

Lady Charlotte Hughs- the wife of Lord Hughs. She was forced by her family to marry him, for at the time of their marriage his family was very well thought of, not to mention rich. Thirty years and six children later she sorely resents her husband and tries to detach herself from him in ever way she knows how. Charlotte is a very strong headed and stubborn women and never likes to admit defeat. On occasion she is said to have had some wit and cunningness to her but that has yet to be seen.

Lady Mary Rushworth-Norris - she is the oldest and plainest daughter of Lord and Lady Hughs. At the age of twenty-six she has already been married twice. The first was Captain Archibald Rushworth and the second was to Sargent William Norris. Both were killed in action. To her dismay she was left with two children. Charlotte , who just celebrated her seventh birthday, is from her first husband and Henry , who is now five and a half, from the second. She is always having to keep the two of them from ripping each others throats out. When it comes to being social Mary tries her best to be fashionable and witty like her sisters, but she always comes out sounding a little bit dense.

Lord Robert Hughs- he is the oldest of the Hughs sons. At the age of 28 he is studying to become a priest though he is not in it for God. He is under the impression that the higher clergy live almost as good as the king himself so his solution to making his fortune is committing his life to God. He tries his best to lead a righteous life so not to hinder him from the vast riches that he will accumulate but sadly, his self control lacks and he has had many a slip up.

Lady Jane Hughs- she is the second daughter of Lord and Lady Hughs. At twenty-five she is the twin of her brother Edmund. Known as the prettiest and most socially inclined of the Hughs girl, Jane does in no way not live up to her name. She is betrothed to a Lord Richard Crawford of Essex. Since they are both very social and have strong opinions they almost always seem to end up fighting but making up has never been a problem for them.

Lord Edmund Hughs- he is the second eldest son of the Hughs. He, unlike his twin sister, is very reserved and antisocial. Most people thought that he would have been the one to go into priesthood not is his elder brother. Edmund, knowing that the family fortune will not last long at the rate is father is spending it, is trying to make a living out of painting. This is not going as well as he had planed.

Lady Emma Hughs-she is the youngest of the Hughs children. She is eight teen and starting to follow in her sister Jane’s foot steps. She is pretty but pales in companion to Jane. She also has a obsessive liking for her bother Frederic’s good friend Sir Ronald Fairfax.

Lord Frederic Hughs- he is the youngest song of the Hughs. At twenty-one his mother had hoped that he would be well on his way to having a wife, family and with a good estate, but he has gone in the complete opposite direction. He wears the latest (not always subtle) fashion. He is taking after is father when it comes to parties but there is one major difference: Frederic never seems to be courting and women. He always brings three closest friends to all the family gatherings. They are Sir Ronald Fairfax, Mr. Harry Wilson, and Lord William Bennet. They never seem to be far apart. Some people would call that male bonding or something along those same lines.

Sir Ronald Fairfax- (friend of Frederic’s) he is a well to do young gentleman who has made his own fortune off the wine business. He, like Frederic, dresses very flamboyantly and loves a good party.

Mr. Harry Wilson- (friend of Frederic’) He is the son of wealthy merchant. Some would say that he fits right in with higher society but Harry has a problem when it comes to saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. (In particular when he’s drunk.)

Sir William Bennet- (friend of Frederic’s) his father, a Lord in Parliament, strongly disagrees with his son’s choice of friends and style of dress. William on the other hand could care less what his father agrees or disagrees with. Nothing will interfere with him from having a good time with his friends.

Dr. Peter Grant and Mrs. Amalia Grant- they are good friends of the family visiting from Austria. Dr. Grant is very agreeable but his wife is quite the gossiper and seems to get on everyone’s nerves.(including her husband)

Charlotte Rushworth- she is the daughter of Lady Mary Rushworth-Norris. At seven years old she is always fighting with her half-brother Henry. Politeness is not charlotte’s strong suit.

Henry Norris- he is the only son of Lady Mary Rushworth-Norris. At five and a half, he is now trying to find new ways to upset is half-sister and fluster his mother. He also doesn’t quite like the way that his clothes feel on his skin so his way of solving his problem is...taking them off. You can imagine that is goes over well with his grandmother.

Giles- he is the butler and has been with the family for many years. He seems to have a skill for listening into conversations. This skill could come in handy.

Lydia- she is the head maid and like Giles has been with the family for quite a while. Though she is not with out fault. Lydia has a terrible drinking problem. Every time the Hughs have a party she always sneaks sips from all the wine glasses. She usually ends up passed out in a corridor.

There will be a few other servants. Between five and seven female maids and around three to five grooms men. They all show up at random points but have few, to no, lines.
