Her Shameless Mockery
The sun shines bright today
But the clouds are close behind
Its brightness is a foolery
To cover for the rain
To see her smile and hear her talk
You’d believe her life was almost perfect
But the tears she cries are neatly hidden
Behind that sparkle in her eyes
Where is the end to this shameless mockery?
When will the lies come out from the dark?
Will anyone care or love who she is?
Or will they retreat to their safety again?
This lie has begun to eat her alive
She’s dying inside, trapped in this cage
Can’t anyone see that she’s falling apart,
Her life slowly crumbling at her core?
She is praying, screaming, crying for help
With the laughter and smiles she shows
Deeply felt numbness, she covers with song
And maddening rampage, she hides with a dance
The blood that is flowing is just a small picture
Of the unspoken pain that dwells in her soul
It has become like her voice of silent, red words
To tell of the agony she’s locked in her heart
Can you see in her eyes, where her soul is fading?
Can you hear whispered stories of her shame and her guilt?
The dirt still clings thick to her porcelain skin
And she sees no way out from the pit that she’s in
Her eyes, they glow red, from the burning anger she feels
For your sad smile sent her way did not go unnoticed
The comfort you tried to voice in soft-spoken words
Did nothing to soothe the anguish she suffers
If you don’t know the depth of her tormenting ache
Then you cannot begin to understand what she does
If you don’t understand the expanse of her pain
Then you cannot begin to help her wade through
Tell her you hate the image she has shown
That her smile repulses you down to the bone
Tell her you despise her twinkling laughter
That the lie that she’s living is more than disgusting
Shout at her; yell at her, pound it into her head
Her screaming is better than all of her singing
You’d much rather see the tears flow from her eyes
Than see her fake smile spread over her face
Show her that it is more than okay to be angry
That she can smash all her mirrors and still be sane
Tell her you don’t look at her any different than before
And that you love her crying much more than the lie
Because she is slicing her wrist to watch the blood flow
And she needs her pain to be released in some way
She’s bleeding, and praying, and smiling and laughing
While her heart slowly withers away deep inside
