Broken Revenge
Chapter 8
Adrienne lay back on the sofa as an hour passed and Shannon was still on her computer, typing away in silence. She was bored and felt as if any second it might drive her crazy, she sat up.
Shannon had the feeling she was being watched. She looked over to the sofa and saw Adrienne’s green eyes on her. “What?”
“So are you going to tell me what you found? You’ve been sitting there for an hour, surly you know something.” Adrienne said with a sigh as if everything she said should’ve been obvious, it was her case too.
Shannon sat back in her chair and focused on Adrienne. “Matt is Elizabeth Cramer’s brother, she was older by two years. Elizabeth and Matt are the only children of Jack and Karen Cramer. The Allison Center does exist. The founder, Dr. Margaret Freeman created and named it after her daughter Allison. The center has been open for a long time; she started it after Allison killed herself because she was ashamed of being gay. Margaret decided to help other gays the way she couldn’t help her daughter.” She explained.
“And you were going to tell me this when?”
“When I was done to give you all the facts at once. Why talk more then you have to?”
“You don’t work with others a lot do you?”
“Not so much, why?”
“You’re supposed to include your partner in every second of the case. And yes we’re partners; it was my case first, once you learn something you pass it along. Not leave me here bored out of my mind.” Adrienne tried to explain but she was just so ticked off.
Shannon lowered her laptop screen and leaned forward. “Ok partner, we’re suppose to share all aspects of the case right? So why don’t you tell me what you’re hiding from the morning Leigh died?”
“I’m not hiding anything, there’s nothing more you need to know.” Adrienne tightly said.
“Interesting choice of words, nothing more I should know, but there is something. You’re doing a good job at hiding it, you only slipped up really last night when you broke down but still you didn’t say anything.” Shannon expressed as she opened her laptop back up and continued with her work.
Adrienne just looked at her, the way she decided to call her a liar then go back to work, it worsened her anger toward her. She stood from the sofa and put her jacket back on. “I’m out of here.”
“Adrienne I already explained, you need to be here---”
“I don’t care what you think or want, I’m out of here.” Adrienne walked out of the office and brushed off Shannon’s protests.
She walked down the street and sighed, she was so furious. She hated the whole situation but something about Shannon was really bothering her, causing her temper to soar. “Ugh! The nerve she has. She doesn’t understand.” She mumbled as she walked down the street. She made back to the station, she grunted as she sat at her desk, her temper hadn’t calmed on her walk there.
“Bad day?” Paul asked.
“Something like that. Has Olsen asked for me?” Adrienne asked since she had been gone for a long time, the boss hated that.
“No but Agent Rushford has, she called asking if you came back in.” Paul explained.
“That woman doesn’t give up; I can’t stand her.” she thinks the killer might come after me since I was a witness so she feels she has to watch my every move.” Adrienne explained since she was still fired up Paul was a good person to vent to.
“Adrienne, she could be right you shouldn’t be alone.”
“Oh no, not you too. I can take care of myself.” She said as she left her desk and headed to Olsen’s desk. “Sir?”
“Come in Lawson, what do you want?”
“I’m requesting the rest of the day off. I have nothing to work.” Adrienne said.
“I’ve assigned you strictly to the serial killer case with Rushford that case isn’t over so get to work.” Olsen said as he continued with his work never looking her way.
“Agent Rushford is following up some other hunches, I’m not needed.”
“Fine, get out of here but stay available if she or I need to call you back in.”
Adrienne left after that giving Olsen what he wanted; to be left alone. She gathered her things and said bye to Paul before heading home. She rushed inside her home, she just wanted to be left alone with the memories that she held dear.
But as she shut the door behind her she found that wasn’t possible. “Why can’t I get rid of you?” she asked meeting Shannon’s blue eyes.
“I’m not easy to get rid of but the next time you want to get rid of someone don’t go home, that’s pretty obvious.” Shannon explained as she rose from the sofa and walked up to the other woman. “I understand we don’t get along and you don’t like me but is that really worth pulling your life on the line?”
Adrienne pushed past Shannon and sighed. “It has nothing to do with you. Ok yeah I really don’t like you but I just want to be alone and you don’t let me and you’re a reminder of what I lost.”
“How so? Because Leigh and I were friends?”
Adrienne sighed again and faced Shannon. “No, because you seem to really care about what I feel and no one has cared like that since she died.”
