Smile, There's A Bright Side (Sort of)

There’s death all around us.

There’s so many goodbyes to make.

There’s friendships to lose,

Lovers crying out,

And yet you find some way to smile.

I don’t understand,

How you can think

It’s all right, I don’t understand,

How you feel there is a bright side.

There’s so much damn hurt,

Here in this world.

And you just sit back,

Sit back and smile.

Why just last week,

Your best friend’s mom died.

She cried so hard,

With you for hours.

You stood like a rock,

Right by her side.

And then right after,

You came and met up with me.

With some smiles we went out,

Too catch a movie.

You never

Mentioned once,

Someone was hurting.

And I still don’t get it,

How you can think,

Everything’s all right.

I don’t understand,

How you can feel there’s a bright side.

Cause there’s so much damn hurt,

Yet you can sit back and smile.

It was just two days later,

Before she cracked.

Your best friend since you were kids,

Died by her own hand.

You didn’t cry once,

Instead,

You just smiled,

And you said,

“She’s in a better place,

She’s up in heaven.”

Maybe,

I get it,

How that you smile.

It’s all right,

If you can,

At least,

Help us all smile,

When everything,

Starts to go wrong.
