I wish I could run so far away, no one could ever find me. Where no could hurt me again. I wish this every time I go to sleep. ‘ Why do I have to live this way?’ “Open the damn door now!” I hear my own drunken father say as he beats on my door. The chair I propped up against the door won’t budge for now. I’m crouched over in this overcast corner of my room. Trying to block the sound coming from the door, I place my hands over my ears. I feel my heart beating faster only wanting to quite life like me. Rain is knocking at my window, inviting me to join its dance.

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky as I heard my chair fall to the floor a second later. “ 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000…” I hear myself whispering. I’m trying figure out how many miles the storm is, 5miles. Thunder soon shook the floorboards. I threw my head up only to see my portal into this dark abyss open. Blood-shot eyes painted on this darkened figure appeared at the door, it’s him all right. The man I’ve tried to run away from for the past four years.

As the shadow moved closer, I tried to picture happy thoughts from my past. It was no use my mind was blank. I can’t move my legs, they’re immobilized with fear. He placed his rough, thick hand around my throat and picked me up from my current position. I tried to find out who this stranger was while looking in his deep gray eyes. All I know is that this man is not my father. He is a demon even the devil in disguise, but not my dad.

“ I thought I told you to open the door?” I heard his raspy voice say. The pressure around my neck is growing. It feels like a pencil about to snap. My eyes shift downward trying to avoid his hellish gaze. “Answer me!” My eyes instantly shot up realizing this is my own flesh and blood. “ You’re not my father.” I said in an inaudible voice. Suddenly, I’m on the floor trying to get away from him. He thrusted his foot into my stomach. Red liquid spewed from my mouth, staining my red hoodie to an even darker shade.

I screamed and pleaded with him to stop kicking me but he wouldn’t. I feel like I’m gonna die. Blood is flowing into my mouth every time I take a breath. My breath is shortening and my vision is blurring. I’ve rolled over into a ball to protect myself from this man. I have to escape from this beast.

“ Get up now!” I heard his hoarse voice shout. Pulling up from the floor one again, he walked to the window on the far end of the room.

“ Since I’m not your father you’re not staying here tonight.”

“ But its raini…” My voice trailed off, as a stinging sensation became clear, feeling his palm go across my face. The window was now open as it showed another world beyond it’s border. I shrieked no over and over again but I was speaking to deaf ears. He shoved me through the window and locked it. The storm came down harder soaking through my pullover hoodie. Tears are streaming down my face that I identify as mine. I look up at the crying sky only to find that it was shedding drops of water for me.

“ God, I want to fly away. Please make me into a bird and take me away from all of this!”

I knew I was a fool to talk to the sky; talking to a God who probably didn’t exist only proved my point. My voice echoed across the clouded ceiling above. ‘At least it’s peaceful out here.’ I thought while burying my face into my jeans, waiting for a new day.
