A week later, Myllinth found herself in a white dress in the King's chambers.
Two days ago, she had birthed Dolan and her new daughter, the new Crown Princess.Myllinthnamed her Edlyn. She was a pretty girl, with hazel eyes like her mother and dark curly hair like Dolan. Through the birthing, Cilia helped her as Galan held her hand.
Now she was about to marry the love of her life, Galan. She wore a white dress that sparkled when the candles' light touched it. It was long sleeved and the train went down past her heels. Her red hair was out up in a bun decorated with white roses. Around her neck was a string with a single pearl that Dolan had given her as a wedding present. Now she looked in the mirror with a frown.
Galan. I've loved you forever and now, I don't know, I can't help but think that I shouldn't be marrying you. What am I to do? Should I marry you, or...or...or...Dol....
"Mylli, are you ready?" Cilia popped her head into the room.
"Yes."
"Mylli whats wrong?"
"I can't help but feel that Galan isn't it. That it should be Dolan."
"Oh, Mylli. Whatever you choose, you know both men will stand by you and understand. I know I will."
The two girls hugged. "Thank you Cilia."
Slowly Myllinth walked up. When she reached Galan, they took hands, and he kissed her. As he was, Myllinth realized something. The kiss wasn't the same as when Dolan had kissed her. Galan's kiss was lovely...but, Dolan's was....romantic and lovingly. He's the one. Not him.
It was then Myllinth knew her decision.
With tears in her eyes, she said, "Galan, I'm sorry, I can't do this."
"What do you mean? Do you want to marry in private? Is that it?"
Tears streaming down, she shook her head. "I can't. I'm sorry." She looked at the King's direction. "There is someone who needs me more." Looking back at Galan, she hugged him and whispered, "You said long ago, that to save my mother, I had to save myself. Galan, you saved her. You saved her by saving me; I loved you for that, but, something...someone...is telling me it's not right. Galan, my mother is in me. She sees something in the King. I love you, but it's the King I need to be with. I'm sorry." She started to cry silently against Galan.
Galan lifted her up and looked at her eyes. "Myllinth, I have loved you since that day and I will love you till the day I die, but you and the King share something, something more than Edlyn. I do believe that your mother is pointing you in the direction that is best for you. I have served my purpose. Now you must serve yours." Galan reached down and kissed her one last time. "Thank you Myllinth. Go."
"Thank you." She whispered. Galan then stood back and backed up.
Myllinth turned to the King. She walked over to him. He stood up. "Your Majesty, I love you."
The King was suprised. "What?"
"I love you."
"I love you." Then Dolan reached over and kissed Myllinth as he tipped her back.
Galan smiled and melted through the crowd.
Epilouge
Although, Myllinth and Dolan were never actually allowed to wed according to Tradition, they did elope. Everyone knew that they were lovers. They shared the same suite, with their daughter Edlyn.
Dolan continued to do the Humbling, though he now used already married couples and only once with a person in a row. That was the only night he didn't sleep with Myllinth. Dolan also bought Lori and she became Myllinth's "Lady in Waiting". When Myllinth protested saying she didn't need a servant since she was one, both Dolan and Lori convinced her to see their way.
Edlyn grew into a bright young girl. She continued to look more like her parents. Her green eyes soon got brown on the very inside. Her dark hair grew long, very long and became layered like her mother's. She was a kind Princess, like her parents. She treated the Servants and Slaves as though they were her equals. She heard Myllinth mention several times (not always to her) that "once a slave, always a slave." Soon Edlyn added, "Once a slave, always a slave, yet equal to all."
Galan dissapeared after that day and was never heard or seen from again. Many, including Lori, who knew Myllinth's mother well, proclaimed he was sent by Myllinth's mother to her as a Guardian until she was in the place she was supposed to be.
Sacral retired and stayed at the Palace as a Story Teller for the children who lived their. Cilia went on to become the Head Fanner in Myllinth's Place. They still stayed the Best of Friends.
Myllinth continued to stay beautiful. She was continued to be the favorite of everyone in the Palace. Although she insisted that she still be a Servant, she was spoiled like a Lady should by Dolan. They kissed every time they saw each other. She continued to dance and sing on every Slave Day, the Day where the Slaves and Servants took off the day.
When Edlyn finally came of age, she had gained enough love and admiration and loyalty from the country that when she was pre-crowned,(she was able to make laws and such, but was second in command)she made her first proclamation then and there. She made a law that the Tradition of Humbling be kept, but the King or Queen could also marry if they so chose. Everyone, even the Nobles agreed; they all knew Dolan's and Myllinth's feelings for each other.
The very next day, Myllinth and Dolan were finally and officialy married. King Dolan had also finally convinced Myllinth to take upon her her Noble title and become Queen. In her place, was a mysterious young man that Edlyn fancied, his name....
.....Galanandor.
