The Wrong One

Feeling dizzy I just wanted to sleep

But across the room a shadow crept

I felt your arms encircling me

Stopping me from being able to see

In the garden you put me down

Peeled back the sheets and started to frown

The wrong girl you grabbed, whom you thought was the right

The one you choose over me on that cold, winter night

The wrong girl you took from the blaze

While the right one lay sleeping still in the haze

She's in my bed where she was taken by the fire

And there's nothing you can do as the flames rose higher

But I need to hear in your own voice

That the girl you saved wasn't the wrong choice

I need to know why you have no shame

When even after all this time you call me by her name

For once I'd like to be first in your eyes

And not have to listen to all of your lies

Admit what you feel, your deepest desire

That instead of her it had been me in that pyre

I'm the one you saved but not the one you wanted

I'm the one that stayed but not the one you loved

Always the wrong and never the right

Always the darkness and never the light
