Rebecca
by S. K. Black
Author’s note: This story is written in pieces, like snapshots of the title character’s life, so the chapters are going to be what occurs in a day of Rebecca’s life. A little weird, but since my “chapters” range in length from a paragraph to three pages (in my small notebook) it’s the only solution I can come up with. If anyone has a suggestion for a better title (I think I’m titlely impaired, all my titles are quite lame) please tell me.
2nd Author's note: This story is on hold. It will be updated, I am not abandoning it, but readers may have noticed that it's been years but no second chapter has appeared. Don't worry. One will. I think I'll take a friend's advice and finish it before uploading any more.
Characters’ Looks:
Rebecca- brown, slightly wavy, shoulder-length hair, hazel eyes. 5’4” tall, 15 yrs old

Margaret- sandy ringlets, hazel eyes, button nose, missing front tooth, 10 and then 11
Nell- blond hair, slightly curly, about 5’6”. brown eyes.
Daniel- brown, curly hair and hazel eyes. tall, about 6’1”

Jim- tall and cheerful, light brown hair with a bald spot, bit plump
Hanna- bright orange hair, hazel eyes, tall and cheerful and no-nonsense
Nancy- 5’8” tall, with strawberry-blond, curly hair that tumbles down her back.
Any other characters are insignificant. By the way, when I say Jim I don’t mean the one from the car place. I mean Jim Braun. If you’re confused, remember that some of these characters don’t come into the story for a while. The ones without ages are adults.
PROLOGUE:
“Bye, Papa!” a little girl yelled. Her mother glanced around the airport, embarrassed, but passersby only laughed. A smiling businessman turned around and waved.
An older girl with blond hair called, “Have fun in Europe, Father. Bring back lots of pictures!”
“I will, Lucia. You girls take care of your mother!” He spoke to all of them, but his eyes met his oldest daughter’s, and she nodded.
She looked almost exactly like Lucia, but her hair was darker and less curly, and her eyes were a slightly different tint. “Take care,” she whispered.
DAY ONE:
“What do you mean, he’s missing?”
“Mrs. Tucker, I’m so sorry. Your husband was on the company yacht, making a deal with a representative of another company, when a large storm came up. There was a warning sent out, but apparently they didn’t hear it. The boat was wrecked and neither of the men have been found,” the young man said. It sounded like a rehearsed speech, but it came out too fast.
Nell Tucker sat down on the couch and put her head in her hands. She began to sob quietly.
Nell’s three daughters had been watching silently. Now, the youngest burst into tears, and one of the twins ran from the room, saying, “It can’t be! It just can’t be!”
Rebecca, the dark-haired twin, stood up numbly. She looked at her mother and sister on the couch, then through the doorway Lucia had ran through. Then she glanced at the man standing awkwardly in front of her. She was obviously torn between her duties. Taking a breath, she took the young man to the door and showed him out. “I’m sorry for my family’s behavior, sir. This is a bit of a shock for us.” Her voice was quiet, emphasizing the understatement. “Thank you for coming.” He left, and she went to comfort her family.
