Just Give Me a Little More Time
Because why?
Because I can. I need no other reason.
Because why?
Because I am able to choose what I want to spend my time doing.
If I want to waste it, that is my decision.
Do not try to interfere.
It is my choice.
This is my life.
This is my summer.
Okay…Maybe I have a problem with growing up
(actually, there is no maybe, I do have a problem with it).
But so what?
There is nothing wrong with wanting to stay a child forever.
I pity those of you who want to grow up too fast
It’s sad, but by the time you realize just how wonderful being a kid really is –
That time will be gone
and you will be left with only memories,
stuck being an adult.
I’ve thought about it much, and I’m not so sure that it is for everyone
(Growing up, I mean)
I happen to be having a really hard time with this
So please – stop telling me to grow up.
I’m only sixteen.
Go find someone who’s reached thirty or so, and go bug them about it.
But I’m still young.
I want to do this at my own pace –
don’t really care if it’s slower than the rest.
I’m just not ready.
Not yet.
Sure, you can act ‘responsible’ and ‘mature’ right now, if you really want to…
but now is the time when you get the choice; the time when it isn’t necessary.
Once you hit that certain point, you will be an adult forever
It won’t change – all throughout your life, ‘til the day you die.
You’re gonna sit back and wonder why you wasted your youth trying to be older, growing up too quickly.
It is very sad, actually.
I’m not saying that 'others make these mistakes but I do not.'
I am quite aware that I make them too; though mine are completely opposite.
I’m going to be the one- Age twenty-five: still acting like she’s in junior high.
I’m going to be the one spending an extra year in college
because I ‘played’ too much.
But at least I’m having fun.
I’ll be savoring my youth.
But you my friend, as depressing as it is,
You-
have already lost it.
