The people were celebrating below, and it cheered Elis’ heart. They danced and sang, laughed and traded stories, one of which, though Drei nearly went insane when he found out, was the ‘Raven’ story. You could tell when it was being told, because hilarious laughter would suddenly boom out over the crowds.

"I’m never going to be respected again." he sighed, staring into one of the crowds with a dark look that would have been frightening if it weren’t for the fact that they were hearing of his childish exploits at that very moment.

"Of course you will. You’re King of Leontine." She murmured, trying to keep a straight face. Quirl had decided that as punishment for frightening them all in his earlier days, he would leak the story out to the people. As of yet, Drei had no response to it but to curse the seed of Quirl for infinity. Having only daughters, Quirl thought this was highly amusing.

"The king who fell in a manure pile when he was eight." he sighed and mimed waving sheepishly to laughing crowds. "Won’t that be interesting to visitors." Elis wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him softly, which he didn’t protest.

"I am so glad you are alive, safe, and back." He smiled at her fondly, burying his face in her hair for a moment and sighing in content.

"I’m a bit happy about that myself.”

"You aren’t going to leave this time, are you?" There was a slight undertone of fear and reproach lacing her voice, so he pulled away and studied her eyes for a moment. Lightly tracing her jaw with his thumb, he raised her chin to return the kiss, deepening it in a way that gave her chills up and down her spine. His grin, though marred by the lines of scars, was no less amused as he gave her a look that turned her into warm butter.

"Not a chance."
