Freeing Me

I lay there

Quiet

Humbled

My soul focussed upon You

When suddenly a voice within my mind spoke.

At first I wondered if it was really You

Or if I was imagining things

“Rip it

Tear it

Cleanse your walls of this wildless lover.

Rid yourself of him

He keeps you from Me”.

Your words were so strong

So powerful

So heartfelt.

Lord, Iargued with You at first,

Afraid to do what You asked

But

I am your servant

I must obey You.

My fingers ran over the smooth surface

The images upon the paper staring at me

His eyes begged me to not listen to You

To leave him there

But I could not.

I took one down

Carefully

Peeling the tap off gently so not to tear the precious image

“You hypocrite!”

Screamed the voice in my head.

“Take him down and tear him to shreds!”

I was afraid

But I listened

I tore the images down

Ripped his face in two.

I thought I would be sad

But I know You are proud of me

Happy for me

I listened to you

I tore the wildless lover from my life

Now I can embrace You

Embrace my Husband.

Forgive me Lord for disappointing You

For turning from You

And looking to him.

Now I have erased his image from my walls

Now it is Your face I see

It is Your face that stares at me as I lay my head down each night

It is Your eyes that stare deep into my soul

Thank you Lord

For

Freeing Me
