Distance
ARC
-
The universe is expanding,
it says.
And accelerating.
-
"Hubble's Law: distance over velocity equals time. Notice
that the time is independent of the distance--galaxies twice
as far away are moving twice as fast. Therefore, the time
they took to cross the intervening distance is the same."
-
I struggle to understand it
while the grandness of the distance
dances
around my brain.
-
Space tells matter how to move,
and matter tells space how to curve,
it says.
Hubble’s great creation
could soon be dead,
but his laws
live on.
-
The distance is growing
faster,
it says.
Will we miss the others,
I wonder?
-
It seems impossible.
Anything
must be possible, though,
for the universe is a big place,
yes...
So enormous
that no God of sorts
could ever
have created all of it
in one sweeping motion
of some satin-sleeved arm.
-
There is no center,
it says.
There is no edge.
And the entire universe
is moving away
from itself
faster and faster...
-
Will we miss the others?
