Lover

Chapter 1

Mika watched the TV screen, bored out of her mind.

My gosh! Why did all my friends have to go out with those stupid boys? Now I’m all alone and lonely! No fair. She thought bitterly.

She went on watching a soap opera where the long lost mother of a multimillionaire suddenly appears with a bride for him.

Bonk!

“Ow!” She looked up at her older sister, Hana, who was drying her hair with a towel. “What’d you do that for?”

“No reason. Anyway, why aren’t you out? Aren’t girls your age supposed to go out with boys every chance you get? I did.” She sat on the couch next to Mika.

Mika rolled her eyes at her 17-year-old sister. Of course she did! People would practically dump all of their stuff ifHana called them to hang out. Why? Because she was pretty. Dark Auburn hair, falling down her back in waves, twinkling emerald eyes, flawless skin, and a body to match. Compare that to her shoulder length black hair, and plain brown eyes, and Mika was nothing. Sure she had a fit body and flawless skin too, but she wasn’t unique, like her sister. She was just like almost every other girl in Tokyo, Japan.

Also, Hana’s personality was perfect. She would rarely get angry, and she was nice and smart. She wasn’t selfish, or conceited. She wasn’t even vain! But Mika on the other hand had a bad temper. She was stubborn and sometimes selfish. She could hold a grudge for a very long time, and had a attitude. She also got very bad grades, but that was because her mother didn’t give her allowance for like centuries.

“Maybe I don’t want to go out with boys yet.” Mika said to her perfect sister.

“Maybe. Or maybe nobody asked you.”

Mika glared. How does she know everything? “Shut up.”

“Ah, so I’m right. Why? Why won’t the boys ask you? You are very pretty.”

Mika turned her attention back to the TV screen. When Hana didn’t receive an answer, she reached out and grabbed the remote. She turned it off.

“Hey” Mika grabbed for the remote. “Give that back!”

Hana held it high above her reach. “Only if you tell me why the boys won’t ask you out!”

“The boys said that I have a aura that told them to stay away!” she yelled as she reached her the remote uselessly.

“Oh.” Sumi handed the remote back, as she stood up. “Well, do you?”’

“Not that I know of. But it doesn’t matter. Let’s get off of the subject.”

“Ok. Hey, do you want to go out for pizza?”

“But-! Oh never mind. Let’s go.”

“Mika!” Said girl turned around.

“Hey, Nabiki.” She returned to collecting her books from her locker. “Did you have fun on Saturday?”

“Nah. He was too boring. Nervous, too. Stuttering fool.” Mika rolled her eyes.

“So, what did you do with him?” Mika asked as she closed her locker

“Dumped him, of course. What did you think I did to him?” They walked to class.

“I mean, how.”

“Oh, I said ‘I really had fun, but I don’t think we are meant for each other. So get lost, loser!’ The look on his face was priceless. You should have seen it.”

Mika couldn’t resist laughing at that one. Nabiki had interesting ways to dump boys.

They entered their homeroom just as the bell rang. They hurriedly took their seats.

The teacher, Mrs. Mitsu, shortly came into the classroom with a boy. “Alright students, quiet down.” When they didn’t, Mrs. Mitsu shouted, “SHUT UP!” Immediately, the teacher had their attention. “Thank you. Now I would like to introduce a new student. His name is Takai Yamada.”

Mika was busy finishing her history homework when Nabiki whispered to her from the back of her. “Hey, he’s cute.’

“Uh-huh.”

“I mean, really cute. Actually, he’s hot.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“Look!”

“Fine!”

Mika looked. What she saw made her jaw almost drop. She made sure it didn’t.

The boy, Takai, was really cute. His dark brown bangs were partly in his dark blue eyes. His left ear was pierced just once and his whole position was relaxed. All in all, he was totally cute.

His eyes were scanning the room. They landed on Mika. He smirked.

Why did he have to smirk like that? I felt like my heart was going to stop. And why is he looking at me? He is sooo cute!

“Mr. Yamada, you can sit next to Ms. Murakami. Ms. Murakami, please raise your hand."

Mika slowly raised her hand. Takai’s smirk grew wider.
