A quiet hush filled the city, the only sound being the swish of shadows and figures who dwelt in the Nocturne. No stars glimmered in the sky, the smog and streetlights drowning out everything but the suffocating darkness, a darkness that dwelt not only in light & shadows, but formed itself into the very real, the creatures borne and fed upon shadow, breathing, drinking, living, as an embodiment of the dark. Sharp curving claws melded to rippling midnight muscles. Hot breath exhaled ever so slowly. Its heart beat to the rhythm of the city, becoming the heart of the city itself, Its steel veins pumped fiery nothingness from which Nocturne itself was borne.
But it was not all that possessed the night. In the shadows slunk its young, those it had endowed with a gift of darkness that dwelt in their eyes and sang through their veins. But they were not made entirely of shadow, for while the shadows had made its mark, they were also very human. While pale things, their forms were unmistakably human, but missing things of vital importance. Their eyes could not reflect light of any kind, no matter how cold, and instead were whirling pools of darkness. Their skin could hold no warmth. Through the vein of the creatures flowed the fiery nothingness, sustaining them in eternal youth. However, the shadow of their creation ate at them, driving them to seek a sanguine spell to keep them alive. And so they took from Illuminatia, growing teeth sharp enough to slice the delicate skin of the day dwellers, and drink in the only thing that could keep them alive, to feed the raging shadows.
