Author’s notes: I have a newfound interest in writing about angels and demons, normally making myself the angel and my boyfriend the demon. It’s fun. I’ve written about… 8 poems for the theme.
Anyway, this is pretty much my life in a nutshell… yeah.

Broken Wings
For Michael and Robin. Thank you both so much.
---
She was a lovely little angel
With a joy no one could know
She had a beautiful smile
And a heavenly glow.
I
Her eyes shone with innocence
And wings were open wide
She loved, and was loved by all
And never had to hide.
I
But these feathered wings are easily broken
The little angel found hers torn
And where the joy had once been
A new despair was born.
I
Where the lovely smile had once lay
There were only withered lines
And through bright eyes that had once shone
She saw the world’s many crimes.
I
Tears ran down her face
And she lost her unearthly glow
As she began to a experience
A sorrow she had never wished to know.
I
But times and places change
And people do, as well
As for angels, they change too
This one’s life went to hell.
I
She left her world of bliss
To a land so far away
A land of loneliness and tears
…She cried every day.
I
Her love from others slowly went
As did the love of herself
And any joy or confidence from before
Was promptly placed on the shelf.
I
She drifted away from everything
Was lonely every day
And with her broken wings
She couldn’t fly away.
I
But, look, there’s hope!
Something just around the bend
Something to ease the angel’s pain
An ally, a friend.
I
This friend was all she needed
Everything she’d love and feel
Just someone to keep her company
And help her broken wings heal.
I
But something wasn’t right
This friend made her cry now and then
And before the angel knew it
Her wings were torn again.
I
The tears flowed freely then
The angel mourned her broken wings
And also for her shattered heart
Which with the pain would sting.
I
It could never happen again
No one could get close
Because if the angel was hurt again
It would be the fatal dose.
I
But loneliness isn’t easy
And the angel couldn’t cope
Because at the bottom of her broken heart
Were little fragments of hope.
I
Hope for someone to love her
Someone to understand
Someone to keep her safe
And offer a loving hand.
I
And the proffered hand did come
Yet again in friendly form
But the angel was reluctant
She didn’t want to be torn.
I
But this new friend was gentle
There was a twinkle in her eye
Something admirable and honest
That the angel could not deny.
I
But, yes, there it is!
She’s an angel, too!
You can see it in her smile
And eyes of ocean blue.
I
And there’s something more in common
An equally broken heart
Now with this burden to share
They’d never be apart.
I
The angel could smile now
Though was yet to fly
And as her heart began to mend
She no longer wished to cry.
I
She had a companion
One that was loyal and true
One that loved her endlessly
As friends are known to do.
I
But, what else was there?
Could the angel possibly ask for more?
Of course, she wasn’t sure
But she had an idea of what to wish for.
I
Her broken wings had begun to heal
But she needed the help of another
But who could it possibly be?
A friend… a lover?
I
Though, the angel didn’t need to ask
What she needed came anyway
Because it was he who showed up
Without another passing day.
I
A demon- her demon
With an unearthly glow
The one to hold her close
And love her, wherever she’d go.
I
This demon, her demon
With such a beautiful heart
Gave her the outlasting thing she needed
And inspired her healing art.
I
With a kiss, a soft caress
Her wings continued to heal
And the angel is no longer afraid
To say what she thinks and feels.
I
And now this angel is happy again
With joy she flies and sings
And she only wants to say “Thank you
For fixing my broken wings.”
