“I hate you!” Shori shouted to the boy. “Why the hell should I go out with you? Huh?”

“I’m sorry! I just thought that, since you were looking at me!”

“Well then, get a clue!” With a huff, she walked away.

Stupid boy. I just looked at him because he was picking his nose. Hmph. He is definitely not my soul mate who will one day come and carry me away from this hellhole of a life. Shori thought as she walked home. Why won’t the boys leave me alone?

Ah, the usual question conceited, pretty girls ask just to brag that they have many boys that admire them. But that is not the case with Shori.

Yes, she is pretty, with her dark brown hair and expressive blue eyes, but is not conceited. In fact, she is just the opposite. She cares more about others than herself, but has an attitude, especially to boys who asks her out. Also, she does not hate a lot of people, only those who asks her out.

“I’m home!” She called as she took off her shoes inside her mansion of a house. It was a wonder that her voice carried.

“Hey, little sister.” Her older brother, Takeo said as he walked out from the kitchen. “Why are you so angry looking?”

“Oh, no reason. It is just that a boy asked me out today.”

“Why would you be angry at that?” His eyebrow raised, some of his black hair getting into his eyes as he tilted his head.

“Because I will only date and kiss and stuff with only my soulmate!”

Takeo rolled his eyes. “Shori, you are 16 years old. Stop acting like a child. No man is gonna ‘save you from this hellhole of a life.’ Ok? Just go out on dates and you can meet your ‘soulmate’ there.”

Shori sighed. “You never understand. I know my soulmate will come to me.”

“Suit yourself. Die as an unmarried woman.” Takeo walked up to his room.

“Stupid. Always so full in himself, thinking that he knows everything in the whole entire world. Never cares about anybody’s feelings, especially girls.” She went into the kitchen, preparing a sandwich for her lunch. The cook tried to help her, but she just waved her off.

“Oh yeah. Shori!”

“What, Takeo?” She took a bite out of the sandwich.

“It’s your turn to pick up Kira from school!”

Shori’s anger boiled. “You tell me now? You are such an idiot!” With that she stomped off to find her jacket.

Shori walked up to the door of Kira’s kindergarten class. “Um…Kira? Are you there?” After seeing that he is not in the room, she panicked.

“KIRA! Where are you?” Just then she saw the classroom teacher going down the hall. “Excuse me! Do you know where Kira is?”

The teacher looked bewildered. “What do you mean? He should be in there with three boys. Do you mean he was gone? What about the other boys?”

“I didn’t see anyone in there! They must be somewhere together!”

“I’ll check the rest of the school! You go check outside!”

Shori didn’t reply, for she was already sprinting down the hall.

“KIRA!” Shori yelled as soon as she got to the playground.

“KIRA, WHERE ARE YOU?” She was near tears now.

She looked around, then seeing a speck of blue at the edge of the forest, she ran towards it. That’s the school’s uniform! Kira must be there.

She stopped. She thought they were having a friendly talk, but they were hitting him!

“HEY YOU DIRTY LITTLE BOYS, GET AWAY FROM MY BROTHER! NOW!”

The three boys turned around. They saw Shori and tried to run away. “Oh no, you don’t. You are not going anywhere.” She caught two boys by their ears.

“OW!” They shouted.

Shori rolled her eyes. “Oh, shut up.” She turned to the other boy that was standing still for a moment before he saw Shori’s glare. He turned to run. “Hey! Come back here!”

He turned around and stuck his tongue out at her. But that was his mistake.

He bumped into the teacher and fell on his butt, hard. He started to cry. The teacher picked him up and followed Shori’s example by pulling his ear. Apparently, she didn’t give any mercy to those who bully.

“What you did was a bad thing. Never, I mean never do that again or you will be expelled. Now I am going to call all three of your parents. Miss Aromi (Shori’s last name) please let go of the boys and comfort your brother.”

Shori nodded and let go of the boys. She pushed them to the teacher and went over to her little brother.

It appeared that he was crying. Shori knelt beside him and brushed his bangs out of his eyes.

“Kira, are you alright?” she asked in a very soft voice. Kira just nodded and viciously wiped his eyes of tears.

“I was scared. Shori, it hurt. They punched me and kicked me and did lots of other things.”

Shori gathered her little brother into her arms. “Why did they hurt you, Kira?”

“They said that they don’t like rich people. They said that we think that them poor people was disgusting and weak. Then they said that they will show me that they are not weak.” Tears were still falling from his eyes. “Shori, why do we have to be rich? Can’t we be poor so we can blend in? So that people won’t hurt me and hate me?”

Shori wiped her brother’s tears. “I’m afraid we can’t. I want to blend in too. I want to be poor too. But we can’t, Kira. We can’t.” She helped Kira stand up and stood up herself. “Now, forget all those things. Ok, Kira?”

Kira nodded.

“Good. Now, wanna go for some ice cream?”

“Yes! Let’s go for ice cream!” with a big smile on his face, he grabbed Shori’s hand and ran to the ice cream parlor.

“She is nice, yet can be mean to others. She is rich and cares for her family. Yes, oh yes, she is the perfect one.” The mysterious voice cackled in the darkness, far, far away oblivious girl.
