By Heather N. Jones

Everyone of you have heard of me

No matter what you say

I’m apart of your everyday life

Your past, future, and even today

I will give you life

Unlike you’ve ever had

I’ll prevent heart disease

If you don’t go bad

I can be healthy, if you will

But if not, you will surely pay the bill

I will protect you from gaining weight

Food poisoning, too, if you like the bait

Those are my good qualities

Oh, it is quite true

Even I have bad things about me, too

I am very depressing

No matter what you do

People use and use

But they are never fully through

I can go and ruin your life

Your whole body is mine to take

I will affect your every organ

A mother’s disaster I partake

A child can never learn or behave

He is physically different

Oh, the mental pain

You blame me for everything

Even though I didn’t drink the booze

You now have bad judgement and coordination

Soon I will take your response and vision

You crave me all the time

You’ve lost control of your mind

You physically need me

Even though I am no good

You’ll never finish things

You may never finish school

If you take me for a ride

You can get caught with a D.U.I.

Your son cowers in the corner

Recognizing the whiskey upon your breath

A silent tear runs down his cheek

As he takes his last breath

Now your life is over

Nothing left to have

You turn to me in your time of need

No matter what I’ve done

I am sorry, I truly am

I never meant to be harmful

But you abused me,

And now I’m your problem

All I can say now is…

See you at the bar.
