A man slowly crept out of the forest towards the mountains. The sun had set hours ago, and all that could be heard was the night creatures. The man made sure not to make a sound as he began to ascend the mountain.
His brown eyes scanned everywhere to check for danger. His clothes were tattered and torn; the only thing of value he wore was his sword. On his head he wore a tight cap to cover his brown hair.
The man continued to scale the mountain. He wiped the sweat from his brow, as nervousness swept over him. The man was on the hunt for a great treasure, one that only comes every other century, and its beauty unsurpassed. Of course he can’t get this treasure fairly, he must steal it.
The man started heading to a cave that seemed to be carved into the mountain. He swallowed hard as he stepped through the darkened mouth of the cave. In the shadows of the cave, he could see two titanic beasts. With what little moon-light that seeped into the cave he could just make out their colors.
One of the beast scales shimmered a dazzling jasmine color, the other an incriminating dark black. The two mythical beings before him were dragons. They did not attack or acknowledge him, for they were sleeping. The man watched their chests rise and fall. The man then took a deep breath and headed towards the dragon’s nest.
The man began to breathe heavily as he took small nervous steps towards the nest. He exhaled deeply as he made his destination. There they were the dragon eggs. In the center lay the elusive golden dragon egg. Even in the moonlight it shined in its glory. It is much different from and other dragon egg, which normally holds a gems color. This golden egg was his treasure.
He prepared to reach for the egg when he heard a grunt in the background. He stood rigid, barely even breathing. The man slowly turned his head in horror to see one of the dragons shifting in its sleep.
In his terror the man grabbed the egg and started running to the cave entrance. By the time he raced past the cave mouth more movement could be heard from inside the cave. The man began to rush down the steep rocks as he the cries of the dragon.
The turned around only to meet the gaze of the ferocious black dragon. The man’s face grew ghostly white, as if the blood had been drained from his face. In his newly arisen panic, he reached for his sword with a free hand; but it was too late. The black dragon charged at him, knocking the man off his feet.
The man watched in utter horror as the golden egg flew from his hands and headed toward the hard rock of the mountain. Just as the egg was about to meet its demise the jasmine colored dragon caught it in its talons.
The man sighed in relief, but then remembered the situation he was in. The man looked up to see the black dragon. It almost appeared as if the mystical beast was glaring at him. The man could detect the rage coursing through the dragon’s veins.
“Great dragon, please spare mercy on me,” the man pleaded with all the will he could muster. The dragon’s nostrils flared and smoke emitted from them. The jasmine dragon landed gracefully beside the other, holding the precious parcel neatly between its claws.
The two dragons began to discuss the incident in their native tongue, dragonish. When they had decided the man’s fate the jasmine dragon flew off towards the cave, the black dragon back towards the man. The sun just began to peak across the horizon as the man spoke once more.
“Have you forgiven me dragon?” the man asked unsure. The dragon just grunted and started heading back to its cave.
“Thank-you dragon,” the man said as his eyes suddenly seemed to gleam with malice. The located his sword and picked up. It still seemed in working order. The man turned towards the retreating dragon, gripping his sword in a fighting stance he dashed towards it.
“Die Dragon!” he screamed. The black dragon snapped its head around only to a blade going straight at him. There was little time to react as the blade rammed into its hind leg. The black dragon roared in pain as it swiped its gleaming claws at the offender, literally tearing at the man’s back.
The jasmine dragon looked from her nest to the cave entrance, as the sounds of the man’s screams came. It continued to hear sounds of ripping flesh and snapping bones. The jasmine dragon ready for anything was about to set out of the cave when a sound distracted her.
It was the sound of cracking. Her eyes fell back to the nest to see the golden egg begin to shake, as the crack on the top of it grew bigger. The jasmine dragon crouched over its nest, only to see the egg begin to shake harder and harder. Finally the egg fell apart to reveal a small dragon no bigger than a cat.
The small creature examining its new surroundings toddled out of the cave, the jasmine dragon not far behind. The new life was greeted by the morning sunshine. Her amethyst eyes blinked to get used to the light. The sun shimmered off her golden scales that shone like the sunshine itself. After observing this small portion of the world the tiny dragon yawned and made her way back to the cave and her mother.
