The crowd screams. Adrenalin pumps through my veins. "Yeah we're The Usuals and we wanna say thank you for coming out here tonight"
I yell. Benj throws towels out to the crowd, water bottles. Our usual end-of-show stuff. All the time he is glaring at me,
as if he can not wait to wrap his hands around my neck and squeeze every last breath out of me. Shit, I know what's coming.
There's nowhere to hide now.
Rex, Alan and Benj stomp off stage. I follow. No one looks me in the eye. God, where is she? We nee to talk, I need to explain.
I change into a black shirt and cords, run my fingers through my hair. I look like shit, feel it too.
I walk out back to the parking lot. I've always hated this town, always wanted to get out. But tonight looking up at the stars in the inky blue sky, I want to stop time. Re-wind it back. If I had known two years ago that all my dreams would come true,
if I could've seen the guy I was to become, would I still go through with it? I scuff the toe of my Converse in the dirt, search my pockets for a cigarette. I hear footsteps behind me. I don't turn around. I can't face Benj, can't explain to him how I became just like our dad.
I can't face Alan either. Two years my junior, I've always been sorta a role model to him. Jesus, he must hate my guts now.
"Good show tonight, huh?" It's Rex. His voice is rough like splinters. I turn around. His dreads are standing as if they have a life of their own, his knuckles wrapped up. Puts too much passion into banging those drums, that's why he's never had a girlfriend.
"Yeah the crowd was pretty wild. No thongs though, we losing our charm?" I weakly joke. He smirks, coughs a little. He doesn't want to ask, I don't want to tell. Yet it feels like something that has to be done.
"I fucked up tonight, didn't I?" I say.
"No, you hit all your notes. And I think you've finally mastered 'Lost' "
"No, with Caitlin. Jesus, how could I? I could I fuck it up?" I feel the tears in my eyes. A lump forms at the back of my throat. Don't cry. Don't cry.
"God, Ev, every couple has fights. You'll make up and be inseperable by tomorrow night," he replies.
"This fight was different." I see Benj hopping into a cab, beanie pulled low on his face.
"Let's get a drink. You can tell me what happened," says Rex, walking to the hire car. I follow him, doomed to my fate.
That's it for the moment. Should I continue or leave it? R&R please.
