Yuri sat in the limousine, twirling her long black hair with red highlights. She wore an orange shirt on top of a long sleeved white shirt and jeans. Although her face usually wore a smirk of contentment, right now she was grumbling at her luck. Like most parents in her neighborhood, her parents had signed her up for a new reality TV show. The show was for seventh graders who thought they could live without their parents. In fact, the teen was on her way to the place where it would all happen. She looked out the window, looking at a mansion looming over a lawn overrun with weeds. She stepped out of the limo, and took out her luggage from the trunk, and rolled her things into the house.
Although the outside of the house was in need of repair, the inside looked sparkling new. The foyer had a marble floor, with large statues of lions by the two staircases. A large chandelier hung above her, the crystal glittering in the light. Yuri noticed a lady by one of the staircases. "Hi, my name is Yuri Kinoshita. I'm here for the show?"
"Ah, we've been waiting for you Yuri," the woman replied, holding her hand out to shake. "My name is Kaylee Smith. I'll be the host of Middle School Mansion. Just leave your stuff here and we'll bring it up to your room. I need you to wait in the den over there." Kaylee pointed down the hallway.
Yuri walked into the den and gasped. The first wall had a giant plasma TV, and opposite of the TV were two couches, and about ten bean bags. She crashed on one of the couches, and pulled out her iPod mini, and began listening to some Jpop. After the third song, another person entered the room.
"Yuri! You're here too?"
Yuri looked over to the hallway and saw a girl her height leaning on the door. Her short black hair came to her chin, and her pink sweater was two sizes too small, but still fitted and matched her jeans. Yuri ran over to the girl. "Kel! How'd you get here?"
"My mom might be evil, but my dad is awesome!" Kel said, hugging Yuri. "He convinced my mom that this is an 'educational' experience. It's so I'll know 'how to take care of myself in college.' Isn't that the best excuse ever?!"
"Well, considering it fooled your mom, yes, that is a good one," Yuri laughed.
"Hey Yue, what's up?" another voice called out.
Yuri sighed at her nickname. "Hailey, you know it's always the same old, same old."
"Well, yeah, but isn't my new outfit cool or what?" Hailey asked.
Yuri and Kel looked at Hailey. She wore a pink tank top, long orange skirt, and pink flipflops. Her long brown hair was tied up into a bun, showing off her huge hoop earrings.
"Ummm... Hailey, I thought you weren't exactly into skirts," Kel commented.
"Well, I'm wearing shorts under this, so I can change out of this fast."
Four other girls walked into the room. "You know Hailey, Kel is right. You're not a skirt lover."
"Shut up Tanya, I see you're wearing a dress. You're trying to impress the guys, aren't you?" Hailey taunted.
"Now Hailey, just because Tanya is wearing a dress doesn't mean you have the right to insult her," the second girl said, intervening.
"Misty! Let them solve their own problems!" Yuri said, trying to pull her out of the conversation. "Don't you think so, Sally? Jenny? Madison?"
The three other girls shrugged. The seven girls talked for about an hour, before falling asleep.
Yuri yawned as Hailey pulled her up. Hailey grumbled as she dragged the sleep-deprived girl into the hallway, into the living room. Yuri perked up at the sight of soda. "Coke! Yay!" Yuri grabbed a cup of soda and gulped it down. "Now I'm awake! And hyper!"
"And you say that as if it was a good thing," Tanya sighed as Yuri began poking Sally and Hailey.
Kaylee walked into the room, clapping her hands to get everyone's attention. "Alright everyone. "Alright everyone! All the contestants are here! I'll get the boys in here and we'll begin taping the show."
Jenny perked up at the word boys. "Wait, boys are coming here?"
"Well," Misty explained, "why do you think Hailey and Tanya are so dressed up?"
Hailey and Tanya blushed as the other girls laughed.
The boys came in from the opposite door, sitting across from the girls. Kaylee walked in, and signaled to the cameraman across the room, and began the taping.
"I'm Keladry aka Kel, and I like talking with people."
"I'm Yuri, aka Yue, and I like playing sports."
"I'm Madison, and I like listening to music."
"I'm Sally, and I like horses."
"I'm Hailey, and I like soccer and anime."
"I'm Tanya, and I like shopping."
"I'm Misty, and I like taking care of animals."
"I'm Jenny, and I like setting people up on dates."
"Well, that's very nice," Kaylee said, uneasily, "Now it's time to meet the boys!"
"I'm Leonard, aka Leo. I like Pink Floyd."
"I'm Zach, and I like Warhammer."
"I'm Ken, and I love to check out the ladies." Ken winked at the girls, who in turn sighed for his embarassment.
"I'm Aiden, and I like to play soccer, tennis, and basketball."
"I'm Dylan, and I like sports in general."
"I'm Parker, and I like tennis."
"We're Alex and Evan," the last two boys said in unision, "and we like scaring the hell outta people."
"I'm sorry, twins from Mars," Yuri said, "but that's my official job."
"Anyways," Kaylee interrupted, signaling to cut the arguement, "Now that you've met all the contestants, it's time for everyone to know the rules. The 16 teens here will try to live here without any adult help. They will get $5,000 to start off with. They will have to pay for all their groceries. In addition, they must figure out the chores, transportation, and how to survive living with each other. We have randomly chosen two people to be the 'leaders' for the group. Our leaders are...." Kaylee took out an envolope and opened it, reading its contents, "Yuri and Leonard."
Yuri looked over at Leonard, her friend from kindergarten. He was tall, with soft brown hair. He wore a white t-shirt, with the words "Pink Floyd" on it and baggy faded jeans. He was a good looking guy, seeing that half the girls were almost drooling over him, but Yuri didn't think he was all that. He was the person who would lock himself up in his room, and spend the day listening to music.
"Your challenge will begin tomorrow, I'll be back next week to check up on you guys!" Kaylee walked away, heels clicking on the marble floor, and left the house.
Leonard completely ignored her, listening to his iPod. "Leo! A little help?"
"Huh? Oh yeah," Leo said, getting up, "let's give out the jobs. Kaylee gave me a list of the jobs."
"Make them boy-girl groups. It'll be more fun," Leo added
"Okay!" Yuri said, smiling. "Everyone get a partner and sign up!"
After ten minutes of chaos, Leo read out the sign up sheet.
"That actually worked," Misty smiled, flipping her brown hair back, "except the fact I gotta work with him," she said, pointing over at Dylan.
"You talkin about me?" Dylan said, getting up.
"So what if I am?" Misty replied.
"Ummm..... settle down...." Yuri said, not wanting to get into the fight.
"Oh, Misty," Hailey giggled, "stop flirting with Dylan, we all know that you like him."
Everyone in the room laughed except for Misty, who was blushing, and Dylan, who was fuming. "Why would I like her? I mean, come on, I can do way better than that!"
Leonard went over and scruffled up Dylan's dark brown hair. "I think you should go to sleep now. You gotta clean the upstairs tomorrow."
Dylan tried to respond, but Leonard pushed him over to the stairs, and stomped up the marble staircase. Five seconds after he disappeared, everyone heard a loud groan come from upstairs. "Aw man! There's assigned rooms!"
At the realization of the thought, everyone rushed up the stairs. The hallway went in two directions. To the left were the boys' rooms, and to the right were the girls' rooms. At the end of each hall was a large white door, which turned out to be the bathroom, and on each side of the hallway, there were two mahogany colored doors. Each door had a small plaque with two names inscribed on each. Yuri went down the girls' hall and looked at who she was rooming with.
Yuri Kinoshita & Madison Reynolds
Yuri sighed. It wasn't like she hated Madison, but she just seemed too perfect, with her wavy blonde hair, her full figure, and her insanely bubbly personality. She walked into her room, and found her suitcase on her bed. The rooms were large, with a full size bed on each side, a small bedside table, and a desk near the foot of the bed. She took her toothbrush and tooth paste out of her bag, and went over to the bathroom, finding Jenny and Sally were already there.
"Hey guys, isn't this turning out to be interesting?" Yuri asked.
"Yeah," Sally said, after rinsing her mouth. "I think Dylan has a thing for Misty!"
"I think Misty and the pervvy drummer are perfect for each other!" Jenny giggled.
"Jenny, do you think all guys are pervvy?" Yuri asked.
"No, just the guys that know my gym locker combination."
"But you actually tell them your combination," Sally pointed out.
The three laughed, and Yuri went back into her room, finding it still empty. She changed into her pyjamas, and crawled into her bed, turning off the lights. She fell asleep, dreaming the rest of the next two months would go perfectly. Yuri had no idea what a mess she had gotten into.
