I’ve seen the waves wash away at these shores,
and though the sand always looks the same
I know they’ve come tumbling down from mountain tops,
the journey rounds off the corners of their pain
Like sunsets prescribed to me by lovers,
I’m eased by the rocking and sighing of the waves
I hope being there, with me, makes you understand
The taste on our lips would be ruined if I had to explain.
I feel as if you’ve been here before,
but it’s only because in my mind I’ve adored
every little thing about you, in this place
your memory haunts its every grace.
We’d have nothing left but shelves of memories
if we bottled each moment and set it away to freeze,
But it’s capturing the breath of every second
in words and dates and soft lullabies that sets me at ease
Silk-stretched sky above us and infinite sand below us:
insignificant to all but explosive to each other in between
I’ll catch your glances, send them off on the sweet sea salt air,
they’ll come unwavering in reserve for my dreams.
I feel as if you’ve been here before,
but it’s only because in my mind I’ve adored
every little thing about you, in this place
your memory haunts its every grace.
I wonder if the Earth will know
the difference between your steps
and the silent treading of my thoughts
The former introduced just now,
the latter has always carved hollows in the sand,
so let’s give this first impression a shot
I feel as if you’ve been here before,
but it’s only because in my mind I’ve adored
every little thing about you, in this place
your memory haunts its every grace.
