watching the afternoon rain drench the field
where you ran near an abandoned villa
using the book in your arms as a shield
i rushed to your side to offer you aid:
my jacket i draped around your wet shoulders
a canopy for your head,as we wade
through puddles of mud and dirty water
we went under the cover of a shed
huddling close together in the cold air
the welcome warmth spreading through our bodies,
giving comfort and banishing the chill,
as you told myths rain, which held steady
but i could not speak;instead i stood still
pretending that i look for a rainbow
but praying that a storm comes tommorow
