One of many –
killed in war.
Do you really honor him?
Or is he just another name called out to the crowd?
He’s not your brother,
he’s not your son.
Why care?
Does his death really matter to you?
Why should it?
What did he ever do to make you love him –
to make you give a damn?
He loved his country.
He fought –
he fought for you.
So you didn’t believe in the war –
you thought it was inhumane and unnecessary.
Well here’s a newsflash –
So did he.
But he still fought for his country –
for your country.
He didn’t want to make another war –
he wasn’t going to fight with the president.
People make mistakes.
War may not have been the answer.
But it was still going to happen –
so he fought.
And when he fought,
he fought for us.
He fought for you.
And when he died,
he died for us.
He died for you.
You don’t have to care.
You don’t have to honor him.
You don’t have to be thankful for someone you never knew.
But though he never knew you either,
he still fought.
He still cared.
He still died -
for you.
Remember that.
