A sleepy-looking mother,
Was staring at her daughter.
The daughter stared right back,
But she sensed the pending slaughter.

‘Who gave you that?!’ the mother barked,
While pointing, horror-struck.
‘Kyle did!’ the daughter grinned.
Mom said, ‘Lord love a duck!’

‘Another hickey? Jessie, really!’,
Mom continued, all dramatic.
She wished she had, within her grasp,
A loaded semi-automatic.

Jessie shrugged and poured herself,
A chocolate mixy drink.
Her mom stared at her collarbone,
So mad she couldn’t think.

‘You have to work on Tuesday!’,
Jessie’s mom began to shout.
Jess got all sarcastic with,
‘Then I’ll just wash it out!’

Mom chose to let that pass,
With her mind on other stuff.
She decided to scare Jessie,
With a dad-related bluff.

‘If your father sees that thing,
I know just what he’ll do.
First he’ll dispose of Kyle,
And then he’ll turn on you.’

Jessie sipped her mixy drink,
And rolled her eyes toward the ceiling.
She was too wise for such taunts,
And her bed seemed quite appealing.

‘My dad, you see,’ Jess said,
And quite impatiently,
Might scold Kyle, and might scold you,
But he won’t mention it to me.’

‘Daddy may joke around and quack,
Despite his straight-laced abnormality,
But you and I both know he won’t,
Talk about my sexuality.’

‘And anyway, my Mamabean,
The hickey was a joke.’ And off she swept into her bed,
With but a twirling of her cloak.

‘The last one was a joke as well!’,
Mom called out, mounting the stairs,
And when she opened Jessie’s door,
She fixed her back with quite a glare.

Our heroine, however,
Was quite soundly asleep.
And despite maternal glaring,
She didn’t make a peep.
