Black, White and Grey
Tell me…. How would you feel if your best friend betrays you? How would you feel if you see your best friend die in the hands of another? And how would you feel if you see that other best friend kills the former?
Hurt... Depressed… Vengeful…
That… was how I felt when I saw Grey sinking his razor sharp blade into White's chest. Grey had always been cold and merciless, but never did I expect that he would kill the helpless White. Grey and White had always been getting along well and never did they quarrel. Why… why would he kill his own best friend?
Rage swept into my vines rapidly. Fury took over me. I wanted to avenge White's death. I wanted to make Grey suffer. I would give grey a hell lot of sufferings before he meets his doom. I had been harassing his family members; kidnapped them, tortured them and slaughtered them. How would he react? I could not wait to see the look on his usually expressionless face. I had never seen fear, sadness, anger nor happiness no matter how deep I gaze into his cold concrete eyes.
I had recruited an army. An army full of vengeful runaways and outcasts; all of the unwanted and rejected beings. I call it the Black Ravens. These people are all easy to be influenced. I pity them. I took them under my wing. I promised them a kingdom; a paradise where I can rule and let my subordinates can kill whoever they loathe. And guess where I wanted to conquer? Grey's hometown!!
The Black Ravens now wrecked the whole place. I waited for Grey to come for I know that he would be brave enough to protect his people. Sure enough, Grey came out to face me holding the blade he used to murder White. This was the scene where the hero faces the villain. This was the final showdown!
"Black," Grey addressed me, staring emotionlessly into my eyes, "How could you do this?"
"How could YOU kill White?" I bellowed and struck him with my sword. But he blocked it skillfully.
"I had to kill him, Black," Grey replied calmly. How dare he say that? I gave him another blow but again he avoided it.
"I tried to explain but you never want to listen," he continued. Explain what? That he disliked White because of his clan?
I remembered the first time we met. It was on that day when every bounty hunter gathered to get ready to search for a certain man. It was said that this man could bring luck with his mysterious power. I met White, a vulnerable weakling not fit to be a warrior. In spite of that, he agreed to accompany me in my hunt. I met Grey a while later who claimed that he wanted to hunt the 'man of luck' and kill him. Grey hated to see people being greedy and thought that this certain man would be better off dead. Never did he think that White was the one to be hunted.
We had been best of friends for a very long time. Grey admitted that he accepted White as the 'wanted' person. We promised not to use him as a tool but we decided to protect him from the wrongs hands. White felt honoured to be treated as a friend.
Grey, did he wait for a perfect time to make his move? Did he wanted to kill White while I was not looking?
"White wanted me to kill him," Grey insisted when I had already shoved him onto the ground.
"What? Why?" I replied, bewildered at the statement, "Do not lie! You've always wanted to kill him!"
"That is wrong. I had changed my mind about killing White when I knew the truth about him. He was my friend. I was his friend. But… one day, he wanted to be killed in order to protect his clan and to banish the people's hope in finding him or his people".
"B-but" I was stunned. This… cannot be…
"He knew that you could not kill him. He knew you would not accept his crazy idea. So he asked me to. He asked me to kill him without your knowledge. He knew that you would protest, but that was the only way…"
He paused. I could not believe what I was seeing in front of me then. A single tear rolled down Grey's cheek, followed by another.
"And then you witnessed it… that was not suppose to happen… but then again… you do have the rights to know… you witnessed me performing the most shameful thing I've ever done…"
I dropped my sword, astounded by Grey's story. When I thought about it, it was true that White himself had talked about his existence. I remembered that White hate himself for triggering man's greed.
"As much as I hated the idea… I just had to fulfill his wish…" Grey continued, looking sober than ever, "Go ahead, Black. Kill me… kill me… but you will never get him back…"
Grey closed his eyes, getting prepared to have his life taken. But at this point, I regretted what I did. All those torturing, kidnapping and slaughtering… it was all in vain… Grey is right… I will never get White back no matter what I do… no matter how radical it is…If only I had realized it sooner, I would not have acted impulsively…
