Here's Part Three of Chapter one.
FYI: I'm breaking the chapters up into smaller parts, so they're easier to read. Okies?
Recap:
"It was looking for me, wasn't it?" whispered Rozalyn, as she stared at her friend. But her eyes didn't focus on Lilith.
Part Three of Chapter One: The Puzzle Begins
They were somewhere else, deep in thought. Another cry broke Rozalyn from her trance, and she turned to look up at the battling demons.
Now, the huge creature was backing away, trying to put up a front of courage. From wounds and scratches, the beast bled. His dark blood fell to the Earth, and it sizzled the ground in a burning way. The thing was trying to retreat, but the man continued to strike it, calling it a cowardly demon.
'What can I do?' thought Rozalyn, watching the man with anger, 'Lilith said I can transform. But how?! How?!'
Frustrated tears entered Rozalyn's eyes, but she shook her head, shaking the tears away. Without a thought, she ran forward, to the battlefield. Vaguely, she heard Lilith scream at her to stop, to come back away from the fight.
Impulsively, Rozalyn screamed at the winged man to stop, to let the creature go. This had gained the man's attention, and he glanced down at the girl curiously.
The creature took this moment of distraction, and struck at the winged-man. Hitting the ground with such a force, he left a crater in his wake. The demon laid in that hole, unconcscious or too pained to move. Leaving Rozalyn standing before this monster black as night.
Rozalyn just stared up at the creature. Her arms hung at her sides, almost lifeless. Tears started to burn in the girl's eyes as she saw the various cuts on the being's body. A chunk of flesh was ripped from the creature's ear. There was a cut right across one of his eyes. The blood dripped down from the creature's eye-wound, blinding the two eyes on his left side. Its bloody stump of an arm was gushing blood. Soon, this being would probably die of blood loss.
The mood of the creature seemingly changed. It became calmer, it didn't schreech, or raise a paw to strike the girl. Rozalyn slowly raised her hand to the cross on her necklace, and closed her eyes. Her hand clasped around the cross, and her eyes closed. She just wanted to help it. It shouldn't suffer just because of it's appearence.
Lilith stood from her spot, unable to move. Her blue eyes were wide, as she watched a light engulf Rozalyn. It was a white, that had red on the outskirts. The monster bowed it's head, as if it knew something was coming. As if it thought it would die.
But slowly, that energy wrapped about the creature, almost gently. Rozalyn's eyes opened half-way, and she watched at this energy healed the monster. Slowly, the cuts were healed, yet scars remained where the deep cuts had been. The most amazing thing though, was that the creature's missing limb slowly regenerated, good as new.
Then, suddenly, the white energy turned red, as if angered. The creature screamed in pain, as this red aura fell around it. It blocked the creature from view, as i it was a bloody fog. Rozalyn's mind frantically fell into panic, wondering what was happening.
From his crater, the demon slowly sat up, rubbing the back of his head in an irriatedly painful way. But his eyes widened as the scene of Rozalyn, and the monster fell into his view. His mouth fell agape, and he watched silently.
'No! Don't hurt this thing!' Rozalyn's thoughts screamed in her head, frantically whirling about the necklace, which she knew was the power of this aura. The red fog deepened, and swirled, almost like a tornado, around the spot where the monster was. Faster and faster it spun for the three spectators, a tornado of blood it seemed. Yet, it stirred nothing, it touched nothing.
Then, a huge flash of light fell over the area, fixing the broken pavement, cleaning up the spilled blood, repairing broken cars and trees. The light faded, and where the tornado had stood, was a small lump of black fur.
Rozalyn started to shake, eyes now wide. She yanked her hand away from the cross, and stared at her arm. The cut was no longer there, and neither was a scar. Her eyes frantically scanned the area, for any sign of the creature. Nothing was left. Except that piece of fur. Falling to her knees, she muttered a soft, "No."
Involuntarilly, she felt her bottom lip tremble. She didn't want to kill that creature. No, she didn't. Rozalyn put her face in her hands, wondering what the hell was wrong with her. She was supposed to be cold, unsympathetic to anything and anyone she never spoke to. Yet, in that short time, that monster seemed closer to her than anything else at the moment. This plagued Rozalyn's mind horribly.
Behind her, she heard Lilith slowly come out of her own daze. Rozalyn heard her best friend's steps, as Lilith neared her best friend. The girl kneeled besides Rozalyn, putting a hand on her friend's shoulder.
Slowly, Rozalyn's hands fell from her face, and landed in her lap. Looking up at her best friend, she looked saddened, "I killed that thing...whatever it was."
Lilith smiled slightly, and shook her head. Just as she was about to say something to comfort Rozalyn, an angry shout echoed through the air.
"What the hell is up with you!" The demon, with angelic black wings, had gotten to his feet. He was now over his slight stupification. Rozalyn glanced over at him with dull eyes. Now she got a look at his face. His hair, almost white, was very light blonde. And his were like those of the dog-like creature's eyes, except they had slitted pupils, and were similar to human eyes. But, those irises were blood red. Scarlet blood red. In the back of her mind, however, Rozalyn thought this young man looked familiar.
Slowly, Rozalyn got to her feet, brushing off the dirt from her legs. Her eyes shifted back to the demon, and she glared at him angrilly. Lilith's eyes held a smiliar expression of anger, as she glared at the demon.
"I'll ask again! What the hell is wrong with you two?" snapped the demon, "I was saving your damn lives, and you try to stop me? Are you two loco?"
The brunette girls shook their heads and didn't bother to answer him. Yet, the demon seemed to demand an answer, and stormed up to the two. Rozalyn was the one who met his eyes first. Lilith's eyes had trailed back to that lump of fur.
"Get the hell away from me." hissed Rozalyn, standing her ground as she glared up at the demon man. The man, obviously not pleased with this answer, grabbed the girl's shoulders.
"Why the hell did you stop me? That thing was a monster? A damned monster!" Drilling into Rozalyn's eyes, this demon's red eyes were fiery with anger. The girl just continued to glare up at him. Not even saying a word, Rozalyn stomped on the young demon's foot. Yelping in pain, the blonde shoved the girl back from surprise.
"You are some crazy bitch." muttered the demon, glaring at Rozalyn. She only turned way from the winged man. Slowly, she walked over to Lilith, who had made her way to the lump of fur.
Rozalyn stood besides Lilith, curious to what her best friend was doing. Then, she watched with a slight cringe, as Lilith lifted the piece of fur. However, soon, Rozlayn's cringe switched to a gasp, and she kneeled besides Lilith as well.
The lump of fur wasn't just a leftover piece of the creature from before. It was a creature itself. A small, rodent like being that was asleep. It was midnight black, and small. The creature silghtly reminded Rozalyn of a cross between a guinea pig, a rat, and a rabbit.
Lilith grinned, and handed the creature to her friend. Rozalyn took it, a bit uncertainly, and tilted her head as she watched the small creature stir. With a childlike intrigue, she realized the little rodent's fur was soft and silky. The creature now looked up at Rozalyn, emitting a yawn from it's small mouth. Rozalyn got a glimpse of silver fangs.
Then, most remarkably, the creature spoke, "Hello."
Rozalyn seemed dumbfounded, but Lilith cheerfully greeted the creature. The blue-eyed girl reached a hand over, and stroked the small creature's head. The brown-eyed girl heard the small rodent purr, and actually smiled lightly. Something dawned on Rozalyn, but it didn't really surprise her.
"You're that thing from before, huh?" asked Rozalyn, as the creature turned ark red eyes up to her. She noted small little nubs of horns starting to form from his head, and that his tail was barbed like that of the mythical Devil.
"Yes." was the creature's simple reply, before he let loose another long yawn. Yet, he went on, in an almost apologetic tone, "I was hooked on evil energy. It was more of a mutation, than a form for me."
Rozalyn blinked, understanding what the small rodent was saying. She smiled slightly, and opened her mouth to say it was all right. Yet, she was interrupted before she could say a word.
From his few feet away, the demon had angrilly snapped yet again, "Kill that damned thing! It's only trouble! It'll probably kill you in your sleep!"
Angrilly, Rozalyn's left eye twitched, and she turned slightly in her crouched position. "Back off!" roared the girl, as she glared angrilly at the demon. The man seemed taken aback, and took a few steps back.
Lilith stared at Rozalyn, almost amazed at the volume the girl had gotten her voice to raise to. The little creature, however, only chuckled, amused at the demon's reaction.
Rozlayn looked down at the creature again, and went on with saying that it wasn't his fault for his mutation. Lilith glanced from Rozalyn, to the demon who was still speechless. Both girls then turned their undivided attention to the unbearably cute, yet evil, creature that sat on Rozalyn's lap.
Disgusted, the demon shook his head. Crossing his arms, he waited for his prescence to be acknowledged again. Yet, once it wasn't, he coughed. Rozalyn glanced back at the demon, and muttered, "You're still here?"
Clenching his fists, the demon, growled. Rozalyn watched him, willing him to leave with her mind. Obviously, the man must have gotten some sort of mental message, because his wings fluttered, about to take off. Before he did leave, though, he muttered, "Watch your back, girly. You don't know when I'll be back."
With that, he took off into the air, disappearing behind one of the tall buildings and into the evening sky. Rozalyn snorted, standing up from her painfully numbing crouched position. The creature remained in her arms, cradled almost like a baby would have been. Lilith just shook her head and laughed.
A slight silence fell over the three. Lilith was glancing around, amazed that people were actually coming out of their shelters now. The blue-eyed girl felt the need to leave, lest someone notice the odd looking creature in her friend's arms. Rozalyn must have agreed, because she suggested they go to Lilith's house.
Both girls slowly strolled through the night. Surprisingly enough, their bookbags were still clinging to their owner's shoulders. Silence fell over the three, and an overwhelming sense of fatigue started to drift into their bones. Yet, a slight curiosity was settled into Rozalyn's mind, and her tired thoughts revolved around some odd puzzle being pieced together in her mind.
A puzzle that Rozalyn hoped to solve soon. And to solve it, she needed answers. From Lilith, and this small creature she carried so protectively in here arms.
