I built a bridge

Across the starless void of the night

Over the clouds that muted

Hoping for a cover, a comfort

A seizing moment of relief

I built a bridge

I built it with hope

It stood fast with pain

It teetered high above despair

Thin, fragile, like cobwebs

Able to break in the slightest of a breeze

I built a bridge

I built it to you

With the arches as loneliness

I laid them together with the love that you gave

I built a bridge

And I crossed it many times

Fickle and troubled,

I often ran away

I built a bridge

Bereaved, I burnt it down

Left in this isolation

I find the bridge that you built-

Standing.

A beckoning cry

That I never see the sands of this island again.
