The Outsider

I look,

They are all there:

My friends,

My acquaintances,

All on the inside.

While I am here,

Barely noticed.

I try to talk to them,

But they just pull in tighter.

They don’t realize what they’re doing,

But they,

Without knowing,

Are shutting me down.

Everything’s falling down around me,

My security,

Comfort,

Grades,

Even my ‘best’ friends are slowly slipping away.

Tears stream down my face,

As I realize the truth.

That I was not meant to be on the inside,

To be with those who claim to be my friends.

Even music offers no comfort now,

It used to be the solution,

But even that has been torn from me.

People say, “Oh, what’s wrong?”

But when I try to tell them,

They just wave it aside,

And go one with their lives,

Not caring.

But there is one,

One who will stay by my side,

Who doesn’t care what I look like,

Or how talented I am.

He is forever faithful,

And when I see this,

And His promise,

I smile.

Because with Him,

There is no outside,

Just love.~
