Sleepwalking Wanderlust

I want to escape away in my car

and into endless night disappear

following the road like a guiding star

letting all those voices fade to a blear

I have not a final destination

just a mysterious desire for flight

yearning for the quiet isolation

found in the inky depths of blackest night

On a road to pleasant oblivions

to put at rest my soul’s disquietudes

the only light is my car’s halogens

as I steal away from the multitudes

Before long though the night must fade away

with the rising sun, surrender to day
