Logic and Emotion

Our class had two new classmates today.
One wore a crisp black tweed uniform
with finely cut white collar and cuffs.
Her supple hands were placed down at her sides.
Long, straight black hair hung solidly from her head
As she opened her clear gray eyes,
looked directly into ours with lucid calmness
and with firm effectiveness, informed us,
“I am Logic.”
The other wore vibrant colors of contrasting red and blue.
He wore robes that flowed freely in the air,
sometimes peacefully and gracefully
other times fluttering fiercely in sheer gusts of wind.
His bold crimson hair swished aside as he lifted his head,
and gazing at us with his intense, shimmering emerald eyes,
with a hand to his chest,
Exclaimed, “I am Emotion!”
As the teacher welcomed them and found them seats, I was astonished when
I learned they were brother and sister.

During class, I saw that Emotion was instantly popular.
His colorful expressions and daring mannerisms inspired the class, you see
Around Emotion,
Every Moment was full of Exhilaration.
but there were some that befriended Logic
even though she did not possess the charisma of her brother,
Logic was an intelligent student
and an excellent colleague.

One day Logic was absent.
Without his sister, Emotion overran the class.
The students were Bored.
The teacher taught on.
The students were Angry!
They threw the teacher out of the room.
The students were Happy!
…But some were Angry
Still!
They fought with each other
Angry and
Confused
without the calm voice of Logic,
they were in perpetual chaos
and could get no work done.

Then one day Emotion was absent.
Without her brother, Logic’s presence kept the class calm.
They did much work
efficiently and methodically
yet…
without Emotion’s enthusiasm and inspiration,
all the work they got done was pointless.

From then on the teacher declared,
“Neither Logic nor Emotion shall attend class
without the other.”
