Fear of Falling

Holding onto your hand,

I’ve refused to let go;

Refused to let you fall away.

But now I can see it—

You’ve been dragging me down too;

Dragging me down towards that point in the distance—

The point of no return.

Feeling the betrayal you’ve always radiated,

I let go and push you away;

Away from me and on down the path.

Without so much as goodbye,

I move on;

On into a future of freedom,

Free from the fear of falling.
