Author’s Note: Lately I've been in a poem/song writing mood. Pretty weird for me since I don't particularly care for writing poems. I can never make them sound... poetic... I guess? And then I can’t figure out what to title them. But I’ve been getting compliments on this one, so I decided to post it here. There are a lot of social, political, and world issues pertaining to war covered in this poem, if any of those offend you for one reason or another... you've been warned.
Eternity is Forever to be Alive (until I can think of a better title)
By Megan (Supergurl15)
In your eyes lies the dark fog of fear and desperation.
Your smile breeds the bustling insanity of an already doomed world.
(Nothing’s all right.
Everything’s too far gone.)
The souls of the dead cry out to their gods for deliverance...
to end their suffering.
Little Annies and Olivers walk the streets alone after dark.
(Can you hear them crying?
Can you feel their tears?)
A man huddles in the smothering cloak of oppression,
Its edges are tattered and worn from use by captive predecessors.
(It’s cold, and there’s no where to go…)
Blood
Scarlet
Glinting like a ruby in the sun
Is carelessly and savagely spilled
Mixing with flaxen grains of desert sand
Fallen soldiers
Plea to their gods
Their cries in vain as they fall on the deaf ears of their enemies
Battles of old
Long forgotten and buried in the soils of time
Still rage beneath the crust of the Earth
Ancient kingdoms
Eroded by the heavenly scent of death and decay
Uphold their majestic prevalence despite the cruel fate of the centuries that befell them
(If God is your refuge…
Whom should you fear?)
Diseases which have no cure?
People massacred in the streets
Scattered limbs
The only evidence of their existence
Statistics of the onslaught of war.
The upheaval of nations by civilizations that only know fear, hatred, and demise?
And the damned cry to their gods for deliverance...
to end their suffering.
(If God is your refuge…
Whom should you fear?)
(Fear is the embodiment of evil.)
