The Beginning

I walk along the empty beach

As the sun meets infinity

And think

Of all that I’ve lost

The water washes

Around my feet

Then disappears into itself

And I wonder

How it can exist

In so much uncertainty

It seems so sure

It always returns

Could I have been like that?

Time washes around us

We only get to touch reality

Before it floats away

In waves of truth

We learn to love, But not too much,

Because when falling through the reflection

Of all that we have known

In this, truly loving, giving everything

Means losing the most.

I look up, only to see

The stars, gently glowing

And I take comfort

In the reaching darkness

Shining with the brightened hope

Of things to come

And the mirror of time

Slowly cracks

Slowly, Gently, a little more

Each time, But suddenly

The fall doesn’t seem so

Forbidding anymore

But the keeper of possibilities

Holds the anticipation of another day.

With the sweeping rays of the morning Sun

Come the Promises of Tomorrow.

-A writer of dimming hope
