Best Friends

You wave to your acquaintances in the hallways,

And you stop to talk to your good friends,

But you walk with your best friend to all of your classes.

You say who’s calling when you call your acquaintances,

Your good friend recognize your voice on the phone,

But your best friend knows you’re calling before they even pick up the phone.

You hang out with you acquaintances once in a while outside school,

You hang out with your good friends every weekend,

But you hang out with your best friend every day.

You’ve never met your acquaintances’ parents,

You call your good friends’ parents Mr. and Mrs.,

But you call your best friends’ parents by their first names.

Your acquaintances sign your yearbook to fill up the pages,

Your good friends sign your yearbook so you will remember them,

But your best friend signs your yearbook because you both know that in 60 years,

You’ll be sitting together reading that same yearbook and laughing.
