The Darkness Won’t Tell

What is that faint noise

I hear in the darkness of the night?

Is it the sudden movement of the wind?

It cannot be.

It is much too loud.

Is it the rustling of the leaves?

It cannot be.

This noise is not to far away.

Loud footsteps coming up my stairs.

Could it be?

No, it is someone climbing up my tree.

It’s my midnight robber,

Coming to say “Goodnight.”

I open my window.

I lean forward and he takes my hand,

He leans near and

Steals a kiss from me.

But no one must know.

The darkness won’t tell.
