Years tucked inside of an empty pocket
Hidden photos of a soft, smiling face
Boxed away memoirs, blinded as everything changes
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
I have held so dear
Instance turned and played destiny’s hand
Putting individuals in separate corners of time
Emotions coming and going, coming again
Silent whispers echoing through unfilled nights
Distant stars screaming down unto their souls
Begging, trying to plead, “Don’t give up just yet”
A half-turned smile lifts upwards
As one of two looks up into the night
Tears gripping through clenched fingers, holding on
Still holding
Truth through all of despair, feeling nowhere left to turn
To a long and painful fight
Truth be told I've tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I heard a voice.

So soft and soothing
A heartbeat within miles of unforgotten words
With each breath closing in on my being
A song plays in the background
As fate slowly ticks through another month
I think of her
The miles between her smile
And the aching of my unshed tears
I wonder if she thinks of me
The silent moments shared
Of arms holding shadows among the living
With all of those unheard prayers
And I wonder
I wonder if she remembers me
Missing her warm embrace
The soft kiss of her whispers,
“I wish you were here”
And I wonder inside the riot
Of my heart
If she remembers
Me
