Poetry,
no matter its quality,
is Heaven on Earth;
its means of relieving tensions of the soul
a treatment of pain far more effective
than anything the Doctor could prescribe.
Writing
such a beautiful, magnificent sensation
is the writing of poetry,
for it comes with the knowledge
that, no matter how bad
your work may be
in the eyes of others,
it’s a chance to express
your true emotions,
the palpitations of your heart
that you’ve never shared before
and never will again
without fear of scorn,
mockery,
or rejection –
confiding the secrets of your soul
to unforgiving paper
where your pen
is the only witness
Penmanship
the struggling and, often, frustration
of forming letters carefully,
slowly, precisely,
takes focus off the writing
and onto the words
Thoughts on Writing History
by flickering golden beams of light
black ink rapidly scratches over paper
seemingly random,
yet delicate and purposeful nonetheless –
on smooth and vast whiteness
26 of them,
such a small number
used in so many various ways
that even Einstein
couldn’t wrap his mind round them all –
how many greats have done this?
sat
and let their emotions
flow through their fingertips?
first, by chisel, hacked into unfeeling granite –
later, by scratchy feather quills dipped,
over and over again, into ink-pots –
now, by the smooth glide of ballpoints
and brightly colored gel pens
onto neatly outlined
notebook paper.
so different, but,
in reality,
all just means to the same end.
Destroying Writer’s Block
Go, mind!
Work your way through the fog
surrounding your attempts.
Decipher the thoughts
coming at you in a rush
and form them into art.
Let fingers fly,
innermost feelings pouring out their tips
into the harsh, unwelcoming keys.
Watch as the words form –
the beauty, the melodious wonder
that you, and you alone, can create.
Write.
