Forgotten Roses

A glance was never enough,

For one so soft and gentle,

She was the girl who could laugh,

Even in times of misfortune.

Her inner beauty captivated his spirit,

As he sat in the solitude of the park,

Watching her, every gracious moment,

With each beat of his broken heart.

Who was she?

He had not a single clue,

Yet she was all he could see,

Under the beautiful full moon.

White and pale marks lined her face,

Speaking forbidden tales never told,

Though her smile held no trace,

Her strength was true to behold.

She was as fragile as a rose,

With the essence of an innocent pearl,

Blooming even in harsh winters,

When autumn leaves die and curl.

He froze when her eyes met his,

Words left sadly unspoken,

Her silence speaking louder than his.

Her feelings left forsaken.

She was a forgotten rose,

Left to whither by the world,

But taught compassion to most,

As she blossomed on her own.

Notes:

The setting involves a stranger and a victim of abuse. He is heart broken due to personal problems but when he sees the girl, he is able to borrow her strength and hope for a better future. Named aptly and simple language.
